what to do if you got a heavy bat ?
« on: November 18, 2012, 12:51:29 PM »

what if you requested a bat of a certain weight it came in that weight but you soon realise its a bit heavy for you ? what would you do then keeping in mind that the bat was from a boutique company.

I would smack in in my airing cupboard to reduce weight but it will play havoc with durability

Otherwise ask them to reduce weight and rebalance the bat.

Other than that try a extra grip for balance

Ask them?? Tell them it's a little heavy and if you haven't really given it much use ask if they'll replace it. If it's hawk (you're sponsored by them if I remember correctly) then perhaps they'll be more lenient as you're sponsored?. Just a stab in the dark here by the way!
Edit: Like Dave said I'd probably ask for a weight reduction and rebalance but it'll cost you. Extra grip may work but you've probably already tried that.

yes it is hawk :D and yeah i havent used it in a net or match yet just been playing shadow shots ive just emailed them in my most formal decor asking bout it so yeah but thanks for the suggestion i was thinking of putting an extra grip on how much does an extra grip really affect the balance by and another question i know black cat put some sort of tape on their handles to improve the balance has anyone tried it to see if it works ?

how much weight do you need to lose? I'd suggest a bit of radiator/airing cupboard love if it's a small amount (ie.0.5-1oz) to minimise drying out. Change grips to just 1 chevron, remove stickers and scuff. More dramatic could be turning the bat into a SSH by chopping off the top of the handle, works best if you are short though! Get the sander out and just sand up and down the length of the back of the bat for a while. It takes small amounts of weight off, so don't expect any massive differences. All those changes could shift 1.5-2oz at best.

i dont know how much i need to lose as this is the first bat i have had where i know the weight i am probably going to put another grip on and then airing cupboard it for an hour as my other bat i think is 2 9 but a super thick handle and 3 grips :O so yeah does 1 hour seem like a decent amount of time for the airing cupboard ?

I think it takes longer than an hour. Stick it in and monitor it carefully and don't dry it too much. What's the starting weight of the bat?

Sounds like your grip setup helps the pickup, have you put 3 grips on this one?

my match bat used to be 2.9 when it came at 2.12 it felt awfull. it felt like a massive difference when i was just picking the bat up but the bat but when i used it in a game it was lovely

i think using a heavier bat made me a much better player as i used to be far to early on a lot of shots now i dont have that issue. but not everybody is the same

i think some bat makers make a bat at say 2.7 then add twine stickers grips etc then it will put the weight up to say 2 11 ish
