Newbery Thruxton player
« on: January 05, 2013, 06:02:04 AM »

After longing to get out of New Zealand , I finally got my wish in September of 2011 leaving small New Zealand for the hustle and bustle of the UK , Europe and The USA .My first idea was what can I buy ,my mind went to cricket gear imparticular bats and a bat that was quintessentially english and rare back home in NZ.After searching for affordable stores in London I came up with morrant(please remove if neccesary) please note this was before its just cricket was around in london. So after catching the tube to south woodford i went into the small but packed full of gear Morrant showroom the smell of leather and Salix albacaerulea that only a cricket store has hit me .I went directly to the bats picking up various GN's ,GM's ,Hunts County , Puma ,Slazenger and a couple of Newbery's till I found the one a thruxton players (2:10) which for its size picked up well much better than the gt or the Mjolnir and I knew that , that bat was the one , so that bat is what you see before you now .

About
Grains -8 wonky but straight enough
Finish -Superb as all TK's and Newberys's do
Balance -Nice not bottom heavy pick up index 2.5
Plays very well its like a springboard all round the ground every shot

Overall
I really this bat and the shape and would only change one thing the grade i should have bought the SPS for only 50 quid more but maybe next time
.Will I by another newbery no , would i replicatle the shape yes. Overall i recommend the thruxton to players who like to hit all around the ground . I also like the oval; handle I find it makes me grip my bottom hand less resulting in more control.

The price has gone up and shipping to nz is expensive , we have bat makers who can do that here and there is less chance of the bat being damaged

Nice looking stick. That doesn't look too wonky to me. I reckon you bought very well! Can you post some shots of the profile and up the toe (to get an idea of any concaving)?

You are mad if you don't buy another Newbery along with Scat are the best bats by so far it's not funny. I have had SPS, Players and 5 star bats and they all ping their socks off consistently.

Yep, but who will argue that Millichamp and Keeley aren't at the top of the tree!!

if he doesnt he will press them which is important for the way the pat pings . TK does make a good bat along with millichamp but the expertise comes with a cost but are well worth it .
