GN E41 & A61? What's the difference?
« on: January 08, 2013, 09:32:55 PM »

Can somebody please tell me the difference between the GN E41 and A61? - they appear to be remarkably similar!

E = Edge A = Apex (Spine)

E41 = 41mm edges
A61 = 61mm Spine

The ones I have seen on Australian websites do look different but the one I have seen over here do look very similar, even though they are supposed to be the Australian versions.

The A61 is meant to be the lightweight bat in their range. It picks up very well and I have not seen it offered in heavy weights.

I have just checked my A61 and it does indeed have a 61mm spine height. Don't think these come any heavier than 2.10 but I could be wrong. whilst we are discussing these bats I am yet to see a nice looking E41, Paul at IJC looks average at best and the 6-7 that were at morrants when I was there last week but just plain ugly. For a £250 bat they do appear to be quite poor. This is just my opinion mind but I think if you are going to spend that kind of money it should look nice as well as playing well.

I find it odd that a spine/edge height can be guaranteed irrespective of the bat weight - surely that will affect the sweet spot size as wood is concentrated in those areas? Seems an odd way of going about things.

to my untrained eye they seemed to be all the exact same bat, just different decals...

CNC, like with GM bats, if you are from the same CNC programme then they will be the same size, willow density decides the weight

Forgive my ignorance on GN bats but are these CNC machined? If anything CNC should ensure the edges are the same size. So this would seem rather odd...

^^This, unless it's some elaborate plot by GN to make profile shots look massive while sneakily keeping down weight I'd assume the bats were handmade.

Gray Nicolls do not have a CNC machine as far I'm aware, there bats are still handmade.

I thought that GN had a CNC in India, as mentioned elsewhere the calibrations can go wrong with a CNC which could have happened here.

That was also my understanding.
