I'm available for 100% free kit. I won't score many runs, but in the Fattus style, I will parade about the boundary fully dressed in your gear for the entire innings whilst waiting to bat and waving your wood around my head, and with my 6'5 frame you'll have a magnificent advertising hoarding to boot...!

The amount of younger players I've met who give it the big one about their 'sponsorship package' and on closer examination it turns out they've got 20% off RRP is amazing! That's not sponsorship that's a decent deal on gear!

I do play with a guy who's sponsored by Salix though....properly sponsored.

In todays age, 20% off RRP is a terrible deal tbh.

£600 RRP for a Legend
Minus 20% equals £480
We sell it for £425

Whether it's 20% or 50% it's still not sponsorship.

i think the whole RRP this is retarded.....my bats are worth $499....i sell them for $499....end of story...

why discount your brand and devalue it at the same time....its makes it easy for consumers to put retailers against each other buy having to price match...just makes my life difficult to be honest...all the GN bats are the same as an example...there should be a fixed price for gear...let the consumer pick the gear based on customer service rather than who is willing to take the biggest hit on price...

that is maybe for a different thread though....back to sponsorship talk please  8)

I would think brands do it because it gives them higher margins than selling to retail, and gets their bats in the hands of younger players who hopefully become advocates of the brand.

I use far too much of a variety of brands to be sponsored! :-[

I think I have only seen one person sponsored fully, and that is by Legget and Coe. The rest are Juniors who have been given decent discounts, but I think that one of them who captained one of the Scotland youth squads may be fully sponsored by Salix. Will ask him when I next see him!

It is illegal to fix prices for retailers, you can only set a RRP.

OK, but RRP is always insanely high...

Manufacturers set RRP based on the cost and trade price of an item, it is the retailers who choose to sell lower and make it look artificially inflated. One retailer does it and unfortunately the rest have to follow.

Can the flat discounting of 20% straight off RRP continue to be viable? We've already seen Romida hit problems with huge debts. Perhaps one for another thread...

Fattus sits on a chair eating cakes and doesn't move. You sound like a hot prospect in comparison!

Ooooooh - get the run-machine! How's that forward-defensive coming along?

Need to bloomin' well get on with it to get a decent sponsirship deal. Major brands like Kicking Horse, Winfield and Lion Revolution don't give deals out to pedestrians

they do to winners with not out to their name and wickets to boot. How is the deckchair sponsorship working out?
