Starting a new team, advice needed

Hi all,

Was looking for some advice, please. In the beginning stages of setting up a Sunday team. Have registered with the league and provisionally have a ground.

Will be renting the ground an alternate week basis from the council. However, still waiting on a final figure from them depending on the groundsman they bring in. What type of cost pw should I be expecting to negotiate around?

Does anyone have any other general advice for starting a new team? And specifically for being successful in getting a sponsor? Thanks

Where is the ground located? Do any other teams play there?

No other teams using the ground, was used the season before last, however.

I guess it largely depends on the quality of the facilities, weekly pitch hire ranges anywhere from £50-£150 in my area, with higher fees for really nice grounds probably out there too, but these are rarely available or maybe the owners don't even have a need to rent them, as the home club has enough teams to occupy the ground every day.

Do you know anyone from other local teams that rent their grounds as cost will vary regionally so someone in your area would be the best guide. Will also spend what the facilities are like. If there's been no groundsman for a year then I imagine the pitch won't be that great so I wouldn't pay over the odds if I were you

Sponsorship - i find if you havent got a clubhouse bar (i'm guessing you haven't) i'd suggest going to a local pub to see if they are interested. The promise of getting a bar load of blokes after a game for a few beers will end up better for them in the long run

Will ask around but a lot of the local clubs usually lease/own the ground all year so it won't necessarily be comparable. Will definitely keep that in mind, that the ground has not been used, when discussing cost. Just wanted a bit of a guide.

A very good suggestion and something that I have thought about. Will contact the local pub and see if we can come to an arrangement. And you're right, there's no bar... But surprisingly, a brand new pavillion with excellent facilities.
