It can only be a plus. Either she see that she's out of her depth, learn from it and get better still or she won't be and this will help promote women's cricket more.

Every major change has to have a first step and this could be it for women's cricket.

To be honest, about the strength argument, it's not one on one physical fitness that you need, just a determination to succeed.

I can't think of any other sport - apart form mixed doubles - where men and women play together - are there any others??

Wheelchair rugby?

It's only a plus for us.
I know loads of women who play for mens team including myself. most men complain because their ego's have been stamped on because she got in a mens county side whilest they weren't good enough. Get over it.
Not only is she a fantastic cricketer she is a driven person and i'm sure she'll do great in the mens league.
She will promote womens cricket and cricket alround as the game that WHO EVER YOU ARE YOU CAN JOIN IN!  that's the point right?

Stand by what I said... If I could bowl 80mph+ I would not be able to bring myself to bowl that at a woman!

But you would do it at someone who comes in at 11 and might not have ever hit a ball in his life?

great point LK, you've positively improved the forum in one afternoon  :)

in our match we spoke to Middx Ladies and they said they did not want any holding back on the bowling and to treat it as a normal game.
we did'nt have anyone 80mph but there were a few blows to the body but all the felmale players had arm guards, lids, etc.

as far as I'm concerned if women are good enough then they should play at that level. End of. Fair enough if Sussex want Claire to play, shame it's not the same with all organisations.

I completely agree Nick, she's only going to get picked if she's good enough!

I played with a lad called Graham Everitt. He was rubbish. However his sister was pretty decent spinner/batsman. I remember somebody smashing the ball out of the nets and hitting her on the back of the head. She barely blinked. If that had been an Indian IPL superstar he would of been in intensive care for 6 months (ghost writing his autobiography at 22).
