Cricket Specific Fitness
« on: January 23, 2013, 10:23:45 AM »

Ok, so we have people saying it's vitally important to be fit for cricket. Do we have any 'experts' who are willing to put together a fitness plan for 'Mr Average' that anyone (who isn't going to have a heart attack etc!!) can follow say from now till the season and be 'fit'.. Bit of CV, weights, stretches etc etc

I know what I used to do and am starting again but I can honestly say I have no idea if I'm missing a trick for cricket specific drills/training.

Have seen Ian Bell working out at an ODI in the nets, He had Goochy throwing the ball with a side arm pro then how ever many runs Gooch said he may have scored he had to run them. Looked like a good work out to me!

we had a proper company that did some pre season fitness training last year, it was class, the 8 week program concentrated on things like core strength and balance along with some basic weights drills. A few of us added into that a few sessions of triangle sprints and we were proper ready for the season.......unfortunatley due to the crap weather our first 6 games were called off and 6 successive weekends of 'supporting' our clubs bar undid all our good work!!

I think what its worth noting there, is that they're high intensity, low-ish weight so developing explosive power and cv strength. All your weight exercises should be tailored for explosive power so clean and very quick. However, I haven't done much s and c coaching for a while so may be outdated or downright wrong!
