[SAF Bats]

I thought this maybe interesting.  Watching the Twenty20 lastnight and it gives out players bats manufactuer and weight, was thinkg maybe we could list them [even if I did see a bat listed as a PowerBond and it was a Powerbow]

Here is the catch though I can't remember them exactly so I cant really start it off apart from....

If those weights have come from the players they're probably not accurate, Ian Bell for example thought he had a 2lb 10oz bat from Slaz; weighed it and it turned out to be over 2lb 12oz.

A lot of players (particularly the ones sponsored by large companies) just use the weights they're given.

So Tom would you say that players from large companies just use what they are given in weight, would that be the same for profile and grains etc.? In most video's of players talking about their bats that i've seen they say pickup is the most important thing to them so they must try the bats before they get them or do they just send them back if they don't like them?

Im glad this came up actually because I think it proves that these new "20-20" bats are just a gimmick really, because non of the pro's use them and they are just heavy bats so any shots that you would normally time would miss.

I mean it depends on player to player, you'll get an awfully picky batsman but another who doesn't care what it's like. Quite often they'll get 8 or so bats a year, and will use the best ones - the others are sometimes given away to other team members or just kept.

That is a good point Danny but I think it maybe interesting anyways as they may use a heavier bat for Twenty20 or who knows maybe a specialist T20 bat, I'm really not sure.... theoretically they'd benefit from using a T20 bat especially it they are middle the ball more often then not.

The actually theory of the bat is that you can distribute wood mass into the hitting areas therefore giving you more bang for your buck when hit it that area.  The actual weight of the bat is the same as your normal bat and sometimes lighter.  I think our Latin friend Fattus Cattus full time Tirmasu eater and part time champion of the Twenty20 bat can shed more light on it as he's had a few but thats my aim for them!

Yes indeed Norburtus Maximus. The first 2020 bat I had was a Matrixxxx - it was very light with a decent (if bottom heavy) pickup. It was a 2.8, but had loads of meat on the blade. Then I got the CA one through and sold it immediately - it was massive, but weighed only 2.9 - again, with a really good pickup. All the guys at my club who saw it, picked it up and liked it - I had 3 takers for that bat.

Then I used Norb's for a while, now that was heavier - probs 2.10 / 2.11 Norbs? But it picked up well, and I used it to great effect in a game a couple of weeks ago, when the chase was on - hitting 37* off very few balls. Because of it's combination of size and weight, I was still able to swing lustily through the line.

I've just got myself a brand new, shiny UZI SPS, at a very good price. It's 2.11, which is right at the top end of weight for me, but it picks up really, really well. I'm looking forward to using it in anger!

My theory is that I will be using a 2.8lb full size bat for all my usual batting (a rather nice BAS Vampire) - and the heavier Uzi for when extreme violence is required.

i doubt big companies (big 4) just give them bats. pros that use puma, slazenger or kookaburra just get different brands and sticker them up. only GN custom make them that i now of.

Disagree completely, Slazenger players certainly get a bunch of bats sent to them. And GN will often choose a profile bat, which will then have their stickers but on -  obviously the top players such as Cook (although GN have said the Nitro shape was initially brought out just for him) may get custom mades.

Kookaburra bats also often come from source of their supplier SG, not sure if they're custom to specs but I hope to find out in the near future. Ponting, Hussey and those players often use the genuine bats.

ok. but im sure in australia, the sponsored players choose their bats from the factory that stuey kranzbuhler has made for them in their exact specs.

Ponting was using Bradburys a while back mind but yh  supose the companies can give the big name players a custom bat in thst range eg Kahunas could be replicas of pontings bats? ice mike husseys for example ?
