Indeed,

It's not new news, he's been using them since the start of the winter or around then, it's not very impressive gear -  Steyn is also using NB footwear.

Gear looks very poor...they certainly must be paying him VERY handsomely to turn down GM for that stuff.

Hmmmm....im not sure about this but i believe the trott and new balance connection is a relative like brother in law or a very good friend that asked him to use their stuff....
If you remember couple of years back chris read used choice gear for a season-him and gary knew each other
So......sometimes this sort of thing happens

I might be wrong thou! :)

I don't know why more top players don't buy into a bat company and use their kit. Surely If KP used for example H4L the sales would sky rocket and they would make a killing?

I remain to be convinced there is a killing to be made in the manufacturing of cricket equipment.

H4L would make a killing if Matt could keep up to the demand. I'm sure he'd have a good go though lol  :D

It's no good sales rocketing if the bat maker can't keep up with demand.

He'd then have to outsource manufacture to India or Sussex and people on here would trash the brand for losing it's integrity.

There's a limit to what can be done without a large staff or a big machine.

I dunno, I reckon you could makes darn good living out of it. I think it depends more on you financial ability at start up. If brand a for example turns up with a top range of bats, pads, gloves, bags, wk kit etc etc. prices really well and offers lots of 'deals' I think after a few seasons you could make a bit. Again the start up money would need to be there, as you could go along to loads of clubs, leagues and 'sponsor' the top batsmen. That would get you plenty of exposure. Offer pretty much cost price on club kit (which means your brand is what kids learn to use and trust) and clubs use you for price ( so potentially coming back for other stuff too). Thorny works for learner drivers cars, loads buy the car they learnt in.

I don't think its easy and I think you need good start up and money in the bank to back it up . I do think if you started a new brand turning up with the full ranges is the best idea if you are looking to really go for it. Offer kids stuff as a future lead to their adult custom, get them hooked early ( by appealing to the bank of dads pockets) and potentially they'll keep returning

I would suggest Trott is doing what most do - having them made by his preferred bat maker and putting the New Balance stickers on them.

It's been done to death on forums I know, but why would you entrust your livelihood to a non-specialist sports manufacturer (in cricketing terms) when you've had someone making bats you trust for years?

I wouldn't and the conversation should be simple; I've got the bats, you've got the stickers and the money, let's help each other out.

I should be an agent...

that goes without saying. They're probably his GM bats anyway, just changed the stickers.
