I agree - best wear one!
I never used to wear one when I played Sunday friendlies and never really got hit there. But a decent bowler came to the nets one week and I wore one on the fleshy part! It took 2 weeks for the bruise to go and it was sore for at least the first week! Then after the 2 weeks I wore another one in the same place from the same bowler and I had tears in my eyes! It was sore for another week, and I went out and purchased an inner thigh pad!!!
When I play 2nd XI I rarely face the quality of bowling where they swing it at high speed (I did with Cowley Jason, as your boys are 70mph+ which is not on for 2nd XI
)
But when I play 1st Xi, it's something that happens more often! The bowlers can generally move the ball around more and swing it in or out! Then you end up edging the odd ball, particularly when you first go out to bat! And inside edge into your inner thigh does hurt unless you're wearing one! I wear P2 pads as they do offer half decent protection and are not too bulky! But there are sme even thinner and more protective pads around if you look at recent topics, if you can afford the top protection?
