H4L Tempo, think I may have scored a bargin
« on: February 26, 2013, 06:11:21 AM »

Hi all, this is my second post so please be gentle and Matt sorry but this didn't generate any extra funds for you...........yet.

I have decided to dust off the old kit and resume playing after a 6 year break, problem being I no longer have any kit to dust. So the search begins and thankfully I stumbled across this great forum. So basically for the last couple of weeks I have been pouring over most of the post and had steadily been gravitating towards a H4L beauty. Well the stars must have aligned and low and behold a Tempo Grade 1, 2lbs 10 turned up for sale on our equivalent of EBay (Trademe in New Zealand). The previous owner had only had it for a month or so but felt it a touch light, I've seen the pics and it looks the business to me, I will post some once it arrives in a week.

Considering most top line GN, Kooks etc sell for $700-800 so I paid $250 delivered, that's about 140 in the Queens money.

Can't wait for it to turn up, the last bat I used was a GM Diamond which was a rocket and was repaired on numerous occasions but finally had to be retired like me. I have never actually had a hit with a modern day bat, they certainly have changed a fair bit over the last decade.

Good luck on the upcoming tests, should be a cake walk.

But be very careful, once you start buying H4L you will not be to stop. they are ADDICTIVE

One of those was mine I recall.

Mine is big, 3lb 2oz. There is a thread on the H4L page.

Only thing to consider is that they are bottom heavy.
Matt leave a spine running into the toe. Don't know why but I've had mine taken back a touch by Gary @ Choice. It improves the balance no end.

Mine is a gun and can't wait for the season to start.

You'll have fun!

I think it depends on the weight. Mine is a fraction under 2'12 and has a little concaving. The spine runs to the toe to help increase the length of the middle downwards. Removing it would slightly impact performance but as you've said improve pickup. A cheaper way would of been to add another grip or a counterbalance to the handle, again aiding pickup. Seems to be the Tempo's pickup benefits more than some bats from some weight near the top, not sure why could be the spine height.

just to add I picked up eddies on sunday and it had little or no concaving and was huge beast. I could see why he shaved some off the toe!

The bat has arrived and it looks great, feels really nice off the mallet. I have my first game tomorrow for 6 years so here's hoping it gets some use, will let you know how it goes. 2lb 10 and picks up like a dream.

Nothing shonky mate, even if it really is this one: http://custombats.co.uk/cbforum/index.php?topic=22435.0.

There's a rule here where you can't sell unless you've contributed in this forum with 50 quality posts. The idea is to weed out random passer-bys who jump on here just to sell and possibly deceive with non-delivery, etc. This lead to some attempting to race to 50 posts with short random posts. Jonathan was one of these and put his bat up for sale as soon as he made 50 posts (and has never made another post since). But no doubts to the authenticity of your bat so nothing to worry about. :)
