Training aid or junk?
« on: February 28, 2013, 08:03:11 PM »

Found this on sports direct.

http://www.sportsdirect.com/slazenger-v600-xs-training-bat-851082

It's only kashmir but that'd be fine for what i'd use it for, it is only a net bat after all.
Does anyone have any experience with one of these (or something similar)? would it be worth buying or would it be easier to cut out the middle man and chuck £36 away?

I have made a fair few of these at normal bat weights. all made from english willow. they are a useful tool if you have one to a similar weight to your match bat. you can cut a normal bat down but unless you find a 3lb5 monster your never going to get anything other than a 2lb 2oz bat which wont help your game.

Mine comes in at 2lb 11oz, so is perfect for practice.

My practice bat is 1oz heavier than that, it's really good for timing and improving strength. I usually play with 2lb 8oz bat in games.

surely itd be pretty easy to make one yourself? just cut down an old bat? or will it effect the weight too much?

unless you start with a 3lb plus bat your going to be getting a very light bat. whilst it will help its better to have one to your match bat weight to train properly and get the benefits out of it.

as noted above, you need the cut down bat as close as possible tot he weight of your preferred match bat.
