Weather.com suggests overcast but no rain, so potential.

There'll be quite a bit, just not a lot for Compton though.

Compdog gone for 0

Very poor defence from him as well :(  First of six nails in his international career maybe??
Nice knowing you Nick, Oh hello Joe!

If Root gets runs down the order here compton might only have 3 more innings to save his test career.

Stop it... stop it now lol. He will be offered the same priviledge as every-one else, and given a little bit of time to bed in. 4 tests in India, and a failure in the first test on a swinging green seamer does not a bad player make!

Anyone else finding watching this test match useless. I can't see the ball for the colour of the wicket

He wont get that many. They need to bed Root in for the Ashes. No room for sentiment in Test Cricket. Compton is a County machine but it stops there.. Hick, Ramps etc. A ceiling is reached, its just nowadays they move on much quicker

And Root did what..... 70 in one game against an already beaten Indian team. Nothing says that Root is any better!

Just to clarify I'd rather see Compton opening and Root at 6 but I fear with the Media butting their noses in etc that if Root continues to score runs and Compton doesn't get at least a couple of 50's and convert one of these into a ton in this 3 match test series I see him being replaced. Not that I agree with it. 3 tests in crappy India and 3 in NZ is not enough time to really assess him in my opinion. Still not convinced moving Root up thje order is the best idea so early in his career, leave him at 6 to score loads and then take the mantle of opening when he's really bedded in.

Hopefully Compton will score a nice breezy 50+ in the second innings :)

This is exactly why I would not like to see Root moved from 6. A few bad innings doesn't make a bad  batsmen.. So a few good innings shouldn't either. Leave him at 6 for 10-20 tests then move him up. Then bed Ginger ninja in.

If people haven't already noticed, the management don't bow to media pressure. And seldom do they make a mistake!

Everything says he's better.A solid system of measuring every twitch in hundreds of sessions at Lough borough. Its not an accident or luck that he was picked against India even though his stats revealed nothing stunning.

Then not everything suggests he's better lol. Ridiculous argument! The fact that Compton scored more runs at a better average also suggests slightly different!

so if they measure everything from some stats analyst then I've worked out why Broad keeps getting a gig!!! His sister IS one of these analysts!! She's messing with the results to make him out to be Flintoff :)

(purely said in jest Miss Broad :) )

I did wonder when I first heard she was Broads sister if she did get there purely because of her dad/Stuart (or at least got the break). Bit harsh but like you say, most of the time it's who you know not what.

Media, please stop talking about a lack of run rates!! It's early in a 4 day game for god's sake.. We've got KP, Root and Prior to come who tbh aren't the slowest scorers around so who cares if these bat for 3/4's of the day for 140 runs.. Bowlers will be tired, ball will be old just in time for KP to come in and unleash (hopefully).. Leave Trott and Cook alone.

Oh look, trying to 'up the rate' has lost us capt cook!!!!!
