Crossfit
« on: March 06, 2013, 10:28:57 PM »

Anyone know much about Crossfit?
From what I can see it looks perfect for cricket training! A mixture of HIIT, Olympic weightlifting (cleans, snatch, clean and jerk) and a fair about of squatting.

Though people who Crossfit seem to get a lot of stick from weightlifters/ weight trainers!

I swear by crossfit.

Did it throughout last year as part of our rugby training. I would say it is very well suited to the demands of cricket. The cleans, snatch and squats are all to be done at a high intensity at the maximum weight possible, so these high paced "circuits" not only help burn fat, but the help you pack in lean muscle. I found it a great comprimise between choosing one or the other, and works especially well in shorter sessions, which is handy because life can get pretty busy coming up to the season. I found that doing it 3 times  a week was best, and found myself as fit as I have ever been, although probably not as strong as I have been, however for cricket that is probably no bad thing.

Can yield great results but be careful. Thr article above may be worth a read? It's about the danger associated with crossfit. Let me stress that the condition talked about is rare and probably won't happen!

I took up Kettlebell training at the end of last year. It's great for cricket as it's all about core stabilty, increasing back and leg strength and performing explosively over long periods of time. Feel in great shape at the moment but only took it up over cross fit as it was cheaper  :-[ They seem quite similar in objectives but I think Cross fit will get you stronger quicker as I know a few rugby lads who do it.
