Edit: Actually you look like you're feet are open and you're top half is closed. I would go one or the other! Get those hips and shoulders in line!

Nick told me I did this and I've since got the hips and shoulders in line and it's made a hell of a difference. Not only do I feel I'm pick up line/length quicker BUT suddenly cover has become a easy shot to play both back and front foot. Defo give the shoulders/hips in line a go.

we have had the conversation about the back foot before, the back foot swivels through the shot with your back thigh to give you power, hence your back foot goes across pointing to point first.
that is how golfers and baseball players get maximum power so there must be some sense to it.

even in an open stance I would encourage the back foot to start towards point.

One of the reasons why I love cricket is because of the differing views on how to play .. Cricket is an art form there is no one correct way. Try different approaches and go with what works best for you.

I'm a bit more controversial in my batting views, Buzz is a little more of a traditionalist I think.

maybe I am a traditionalist, I am with most things.

but I do love seeing different ways of playing and it is vital to keep challenging your methods otherwise you can't improve.

with the pull shot here my main comment is it feels a little unnatural, as Garrettj says you don't just smash it!
that will come with practice and being in a match situation.

Thanks for taking the time to look at my video's guy's, much appreciated! The pull/hook shot is something I've never been comfortable playing and to be honest looking back I don't seem to play it as bad as I thought, main thing I can see is I am never in a set/solid position which is obviously never a good thing! With regards to my mixed stance, I guess that's just one of the problems with having no markings on the floor? I can't actually tell where my front foot is due to the flooring but will have a look at fixing this! Thanks for the help, much appreciated!

The pull shot is a shot I had real problems with. As an opener I used to get peppered and being a bit crazy I would go after everything no matter if I was in a good position or not.

These days for me it's no shot unless I am in a good position to play the ball, there is no harm in leaving it. If you just sway out of the way the bowler will soon realise he isn't going to get you out going after one.

My issues were with getting cramped up, I would not get my arms at full length and would lean back a little. I found turning my backfoot inwards made it a lot easier for me to keep my head foraward and be able to free my arms. I'm 35 now so not as quick as I use to be, this open position means I get leave it better of just take one in the ribs!!

I tend to whip it off my hip unless it gets to big and sway.

If I go looking for it I tend to play off my front foot the pull.

Agree it about positioning use chalk set positions that are correct ref feet and see how close you get to them.

Confidence is key to the shot

123* ... well done

That was a great net, one shot at the start was a bit off but that was it in the whole net, no coming across the ball when driving.

the shot on 6mins 20 secs shows how far you have come along in a short space of time, its a nice off drive. There is a nice one on 1min 08 secs to.

Areas that you could improve:

there is a slight balance issue, after some shots you have to take a step forward. I think this is because your stride isnt big enough.

the stance looks a bit strange in the feet but if it is comfy stick with it.

have you change your top hand grip???

Nice and still at the crease. Good stuff.

Thanks Garrett, really appreciate taking the time to have a look!

Agree about my balance issue, moving a lot more after I've hit the ball, I agree with you, most of the time my stride is small and not much further than the crease, will look to work on that!

Regarding my feet, something completely not deliberate! Just can't tell if my feet are lined up as there's no markings, going to take some tape next week to see where I'm at.

And haven't consciously changed my grip? Does it look this way?

Cheers again!
