Friendly for the first game of our season, with perhaps the oddest and most frustrating wides rules I've ever played with. 40 overs with anything outside leg is tough, but you can live with that. The tricky bit was the offside. where they seemed to be calling anything more than a foot wide of the off stump as a wide, regardless. Batsman misses the ball on the offside trying to cut it? Wide. Batsman moves across to try and play the ball and misjudges the height so it goes over his bat? Wide. Batsman manages to pull a slightly shorter offside one back to the leg-side for a slog... Runs. It becomes very frustrating, as ball movement off the pitch is instantly penalised. The result was we beat them, but they scored 85 ao with 42 coming from extras while we managed to knock it off for the loss of 3 wickets.EDIT: A pleasant ground for South East London as well...
