We're setting 0out from oslo at 4am tomorrow on our teams annual tour, this time the port of call is Essex, and as skipper i was just wondering what the likely standard is of the two teams we'll face so I can decide which game is better to give a few of the lesser players a bit of a bowl and a bat higher up without them just being cannon fodder. Though some of you guys might play in the area or at least have a decent idea of tyhe level they play at. Thanks in advance.

We play

Blunham CC who play in Huntingdonshire county cricket league Div 1
Rickling Ramblers CC who play in Herts & Essex Cricket League Div 2
and the captains Scotts XI who we've played a few times so know what we're in for.

P.S anyone in the area please arrange for good weather, this is our only chance to play on turf all season :(

If you're coming from Norway pack your shorts, it'll be a scorching 10c-12c probably

good old blunham! play them both in midweek and in our sunday league for the last 5plus seasons

a mixture really depending on whos around. mostly your average club side. nothing special but they tend to buy in talent and rely on that. when that comes off they do pretty well. they have a lefthander called Kay, sri lankan guy who just blasts from ball one. bowls little right arm mediums. They also had a south african keeper batsman who was handy with both bat and gloves. not sure if either are back this year or if they will play. couple of handy younger bats - connor heaps has his moments.

bowling wise they have a couple of younger seamers who are handy but tend to be a little short. other than that nothing much to worry about.

wicket wise always looks pretty average but tends to be reasonable. we played there a couple of years back in a 45 over a side game and narrowly missed out on chasing 320 odd. outfields a bit ropey and will probably have one short boundary square ( either to the club house or the field depending on pitch)

what day you playing there?

My weather app says it's 20C there today, but will be 10C all weekend, it's 13C in Oslo! And now we play in coloured kits over here I've only got my whites and no jumpers!

We're playing there tomorrow afternoon.

We've a real mixed side (and only 11 for the first game), so just need to make sure everyone enjoys their game and gets enough of a challenge.

im sure they will give you a challenge if the usual faces turn up. always difficult with tour games as work commitments make it hard. they tend to have their game faces on during the leagues but have played them in dead rubber games and they can be a bit more relaxed. im sure the bar will be open anyway!

Yup, free beer is the main perk of touring the UK!

Yeah, dare say we'll be there till late, so if you're around feel free to drop by, you will likely shift 11 bats to drunk expats!

Now that's what I call business, the opportunity to shift some sticks and free beer thrown in as well!

Rickling Green isnt far from me. Used to play football over there. Their seconds play in the div below ours, but not played against them. Should be a decent level of cricket, but not too serious. When are you playing them? Next time youre touring try Farnham CC, play in the same league. Lovely ground and a pub over the road.

Ah the oddities of league cricket.

You are going on a tour of Essex, Blunham is in Bedfordshire but play their cricket in the Huntingdonshire/Cambridgeshire system.

My head hurts trying to work it all out.

Hunts 1 is a decent league, 2 leagues below the level I play at. A couple of teams from Hunts 1 have come up to Cambs and Hunts Premier League Cricket and done well, so I think it's a fairly good standard.

The beds leagues aren't great on a Saturday so most play in the northants, Saracen herts or hunts leagues depending on where they are in the county.

Haha, some of te lads tours there 3-4 years ago and said one of the bowlers had what could politely be described as a 'wristy action'!

Blunham were great hosts and a top bunch, helped by the fact they let me get 4 for and 50*, we still lost though.
