Also as the series was already won. Used it as an opportunity to get some batsmen into form I would think. As much as they talked up its importance,  it is only an Ashes warm up.

I think England's approach to this game has been a little odd from about the last session on day 3. And I don't mean not enforcing the follow on, I think that was fair enough. More to do with the scoring rate and the amount of time they batted.
I wonder if having lost a whole day to rain there was any commercial pressure to take this game into a 5th day?
I doubt it, but you never know.

The decision to not enforce the follow on was fine, so long as they batted quickly.
Trott on day 3 was to blame for one.
Batting on till 460 (50 more than the highest chance) was very odd. 400 would have been enough.

Dont think Clarke would have batted so long. Will be interesting in the Ashes with the 2 different style of captain's

You can't take too much notice of the weather, who says the forecast will be right? Headingley drains quickly and the forecast is set to improve during the day. Might be a last session dash though.

I think the approach has been great.

After day 2 of play (well, officially day 3) we were well in the driving seat of this test. Very unlikely that we would lose the game and so even if the game is a draw we win the series. Giving the top order the opportunity to bat in a pressure free Test situation in the last top level opportunity before the ashes. And look how that's paid off. Cook and Trott with their first good scores in a while.

I would have given onions or tremlett a go (tremlett a risk since he just came back from injury). Think Jade's had too many chances; his variation is over rated.

Looks like the Zim kit to me but least its a change.
