Imagine your future kids watching you, and how you would give them a scolding if they had a really foul temper! Works for me, after I've been angry, I think of how anyone who sees you as a role model would react, and it serves as a reminder that anger doesn't really do you much good! :)

It looks like you have identified an area to work on, short bowling. You have 2 options

Practice

It is very hard to practice against as in the nets most bowlers pitch it up and bowling machines are usually set so you can simply drive the ball.
If you can get someone to bowl short, do some throw downs or get in a bowling machine you can work on your technique ... Keeping the ball down

Decision making

You can chose to decide that early on you or prone to getting out to short bowling so try not to hit it too hard, place it for a 1 or 2 or just leave it.

I get the feeling these short balls are hop/chest high and not flying towards your throat at pace so you are seeing them as a free hit and just going at it very hard??

At club level bad balls often get wickets as batsmen get a little excited and really try to smash it

I guess you just do what is natural to you, if you are an angry sort of person, then just get really annoyed and shout ect, I just usually accept it and move on, there isn't much you can do once you're out, so just get one with it and not really dwell too much about it. Especially if you are playing in front of kids, you don't really wanna be swearing and shouting! Unless that's your thing ;)

your start to the season sounds like mine, 2 and 4 so far. both times felt good then gone to attack the bowling and got out to my own stupid shots. when i get out i just go and sit on my own quietly for a couple of minutes, and go through what happened and try to pick a couple of learning points then move on and try and enjoy the rest of the game as like previous posters have said we are mainly only playing for fun.

Well got a first ballet today for the U18's so to add to my season as a: 0,1,0
Really angry to the point where I'm giving it two more games and if I don't reach double figures I'm turning to golf or something, so expect a decent stash off kit on here for sale soon!

There's obviously something that's stopping you from playing at the standard you normally play at when batting in the nets. Don't think too much of chucking the sport for something else, and be harsh to yourself, but there is a difference. How have you been out on both situations? Getting angry will achieve nothing...

Well caught on all occasions mate, one trying to pull, one cutting and one caught at mid wicket trying to drive mate. I'm not being harsh on myself mate its just getting me really annoyed, to the point where I'm thinking why the hell to I turn up as a batsman and kind of waste my day as when I get in bat I'm out a ball later so it's quite annoying especially when I've got exams coming up and playing all the time is resulting in me not being able to revise!

dont want to sound like your parents or a school teacher but you must give your exams the respect they deserve and put all your effort into them. You will be thankful later in life that you did. the break away from cricket will have you raring to go when it's finished in a month or so time??? Maybe just play Saturday to give yourself a break from revising.

Uni is an alternative way to get into county cricket and also get you a nice job so you can buy that £500 laver  ;)

Whatever you do don't give up mate, I quit for 10 years as I got hacked off with not performing as I used to - worst decision I've made, been playing again for 3 years now and back in love with cricket.

You're probably just too anxious to score runs. Easier said than done but just try to relax at the crease.

My stepson is doing his exams .... I gave him 12 years of past papers for his maths exam!!!!

If you need some past papers, I'm your man!!

You will be so glad to face just one ball after your exams you will be well into your cricket and just appreciate being on the field.

Mate cannot agree with this strongly enough. I wasted 18 months on A levels (which I skipped many a lesson to play cricket) and have nothing to show for it.

And on another note if you get frustrated by cricket I strongly recommend you avoid golf haha

That is very true. I heard from a former team mate that when michael bevan played in our league when he got out he used to get changed out of his kit, jump in his car and drive off!!  He would then return later on to come out and field.

It's better that you are annoyed than not bothered as it shows your passion for the game. As you get older this attitude of critical self analysis will do you very well in not just cricket but in life in general

I sound like a priest tonight!!!
