How to treat a thigh strain?
« on: May 08, 2013, 01:46:46 PM »

Each time I bowl, regardless of how much I warm up, my left thigh just feels like its been stabbed..any suggestions as to how it could be remedied.

do you wear compression shorts? have you rested or do you carry on playing? could be the case you have a minor strain that never gets chance to heal. regardless of warm ups etc it wont get better unless is rested.

id suggest wearing them and probably looking at some gentle stretches and exercises to get the muscle back functioning properly - not just before a game but at home etc. it probably just needs gentle breaking in again after a period of inactivity.

It's more the front left nearer the groin, I used to be fast, but still have a 15 yard run up, though can bowl of 3 !:)

Stretch, warm up, stretch & the compressions. I would have it looked at by a physio as well though, try to get one who knows cricket injuries it can save you a few visits.

Aaah. Like that. Sounds like an injury that didn't heal well leaving behind a very weak muscle. You'll feel like you are fine when you are rested but any strain will bring you back to square one. I would start with a stretching routine for a week or so to break up the scar tissue. Twice a day. And then move on to a strengthening program. Progress gently through the exercises. Youtube is filled with videos. And yes, no cricket or running till you finish the strengthening. I'm sure you'll feel a difference if you adhere for at least 3 weeks.

And, yes, physio. A good one can be great but all too often I have ended up spending way too much and the results don't stack up...

Also, two of the greatest rehab aids for me were - yoga and swimming. They are both AWESOME!

I've been totally stupid, thinking that a round of golf shouldn't affect it it in any way..boy was I wrong, it was painful using any irons or a putter..and the worse thing is I have a game on friday for the Cricket Writers Club..my first..and one I don't want to miss.. will take some serious pain killers before and during the game if need be..but will try and just bat..probably still no too wise.

you may have rested but have you rehabbed, you need to stregnthen the weakened area too, considering it is being placed under the same stress as it was previously.

So I have something very similar, it seems to be at the front and out left side of the left thigh.

It's fine during the week, but is really painfull if I stretch the thigh during a game, or push off and start to run in the field.

Any recommendation on reasonably priced compression shorts?
