Most drops/missed "outs" in an innings...?
« on: May 28, 2013, 08:08:17 AM »

We played a game on Saturday where our high scorer, who scored 96, was dropped seven times and had one missed stumping. His ninth life was the one he was given out on.

Likewise, the opposition's highest scorer was dropped four times by us for his 60-something.

What's the largest number of chances that you've seen given to either one of your or the opposition's players?

Can't really reply on that, but I do know that last season every chance that I gave was snaffled while teammates were getting a life or two!  >:(

I played with a guy in the season just gone who swings from ball one (three games he hit a six from the first ball he faced), so he usually has a few lives per game. First game I played with him he was dropped eight (yes 8!) times on his way to a quickfire 60-odd. I'd never seen anything like it.

If I hit it in the air I get caught, I can't remember the last time I was actually dropped :(

I do hate players that just wack it in the air without a care and just seem to get away with it. I know that's down to poor fielding sometimes or plain luck on their side when their edges, insides edges etc all drop short/just over fielders but it's really annoying. Still, the batsmen's job is to score runs no matter how you do it so it's all just cricket :)

Just hate playing these players that's all.

It's a bit gutting when you're on a bad trot yourself!

I once dropped the same guy 4 times when I was about 15/16.

The one that was hit in the air with a lot of time to catch it was dropped. The one that hit him in the chest was caught on the rebound.

But me well I hit a four through the fielders hand and then edge to get caught, most of the time people don't miss the chances when I hit in the air.

On Sunday our team, fielding first, managed to drop 9 catches and hold on to one. One fielder dropped 6 of the catches. Not a good day for him.

This then spread to the opposition, who managed to drop 5 catches as well. Was interesting, but not unknown for our team...

I had the same thing a couple of weeks ago, hit as screamer which the fielder caught at about ankle height, it just stuck in his hand.

I then ended up umpiring and watched plenty of easier catches dropped. I am not saying I was going to hang around much longer as my track record this season is poor but I have certainly been unlucky to have the two catches I gave stick so far.

11 dropped catches in an inning of 158* from 57 balls for one of our batsman 2-3 years back...the 11th dropped catch was on 158 so he just walked out after that...first chance was when he had scored less than 20...and then chance number 2 to 11 occoured between 100 - 158....we made close to 400 runs in 40 overs in that game.

what I don't get though (and I'm a bastmen) is how people celebrate a 'great' innings after being dropped, given lives or generally just being darn lucky with edges etc. Even they know it was sheer luck. Much rather score my runs without giving all the chances etc
