A question for those with many bats...
« on: June 10, 2013, 05:40:22 AM »

Following on from the topic of how much would you spend on a bat, here's an alternative question. If you have many bats, would you consider selling all of them to buy something like the Signature package, where you get your match and  net bat balanced the same, and only using those two, or would you consider selling all but two, which you would use as a net and match bat, and spend the rest on improving your game in other ways, e.g. Coaching?

Or are you happy to keep them all and rotate the use?

Taking a rational perspective, and given how much I could do with help, I think I'd probably side with selling all but two and getting coaching. What do you think?

To buy my signature I sold 3 or 4 bats. I still end up buying bats, I think it's a habit/addiction/boredom in the off season. I'm now back at 5 bats and I still only use the signature in matches.

Should I spend money on coaching, yeah probably. I need to get some batting discipline.

Maybe, I do like the variety of bats that I have but thought of selling them all does cross my mind every now and then...

i think you should only stick to using one bat per season.i always second guess myself.if you take out your "other bat " and dont score then you are like, well maybe i used the wrong bat. I have one main bat and will use it in every game this season. If it doesnt make me runs then i will chunk it and get something new for the next season....

I agree.

treat your kit well and it will treat you well.

obviouly though as a member of this forum, you are honour bound to buy a new bat after every failure though.

I am definitely moving to the 'less is more' camp.
Before joining the forum I used 1 bat per season, occasionally having bat lost 2 or 3 years.
Now I've got three bats in my bag and only one will be used.

Would I sell them for a Signature package? Yes, if such a package could be gained for less than the published prices.

I guess you could go to a small bat maker and get two bats, a kind of 'DIY' signature package. I'd do that as it makes perfect sense.

Still, after every failure I still look at my bat and wonder where it all went wrong.

I hear what you're saying guys.. through this fab forum I've mainly bought a range of kit but also recently traded 2 bats for 1 and feel like I now have a good selection for different conditions, pitches and batting order or am I over thinking things...I guess it's the confidence in the bat that's scoring runs for most people but what about when it's not going well..... It's the batsman and his/her skills (are there any girls on this forum?   ???)

As my season is over with a back injury i'm looking at them.. right now .. all 5 in a row with great sadness  :( that I probably won't be using them this season unless it's extended to august/september with the number of cancellations we've had due to rain in prague...

Of course I still look at ebay every night and the forum for what else is on offer and there's still the SAF Hades that I want and the M&H and others from the quality companies selling on here e.g hel 156

I don't think there's a right answer.. just a love of willow and the search for the perfect bat or bats with a slight addiction and desire...

I buy and get literally loads of bats but only ever really use one bat.

I have a few going spare at the minute the trott bat is going great guns now.

I have slowed down recently I think a good bat is enough in all conditions and pitches.

I have about 5 to 6 bats sat around gathering dust.....

Shame really some of them are belters...

Like you Tim I think we both experiment buying bats bit fed up of it now got my bat and will use till it breaks

Will I buy I doubt I will for a while

I have two top of the range bats in my kit bat and I tend to stay faithful to only one during the season, which I use in the nets and for matches. I find it hard to justify buying a beautiful stick, when the bat that I'm using is still going like a train and the other spare bat in my kit bag is the envy of the changing room. I think if I had the money I would have a few more, but I would feel guilty buying anymore, when another player could have the fun of smashing the ball all over the park!

I would love to sell all but 3 of my bats, but it is quite hard to choose which ones to keep! :-[ I would probably keep the money aside for some cricket balls, and possibly spend on a better set of thigh-guards! We have a coach at the club anyways, so no need to spend money on those sessions! ;)

Bats are like my babies ... each one is special, it's hard to give up any of them ...

I reckon there are a few on here that can relate to that ...

personally i have 17 bats at the moment and i aim to cut that to about 10.

I have my current match bat made to the exact same spec as my Salix match bat from lat year so my main match bat and net bat are the same all the others are used on sundays T20's etc. Although sating that 8 of them are brand new and never left the house. Im sure they will all get a match at some point. If not its not like they become dead over time as long as you tap them up and oil and keep in cool dry space.

Started with 7 this season, down to 3. One brand new, still contemplating whether to use it or not, my old match and net bat and a spare for those in my team who like to borrow.

Sold an GN A61 1000LE, a GM Apex Original, and a Slazenger Master class to purchase my Signature. I would do it all over again as this bat is just amazing. I will be using it for a long time, so I see it as a good investment. This was not as perfect as the "21 grain master piece" but I got it for a pretty good deal. It has a couple of tiny blemishes which brought the price down. Anyway I love it and it goes like a train.
