Misleading Conduct
« on: June 16, 2013, 04:59:13 PM »

Hi Guys,
How do professional cricketers get away with obviously getting their bats made by a personal  bat maker who may not be even be from their sponsored company?
Isn't that a bit unfair for the unsuspecting consumer who buys a bat assuming that's it is exactly the same as what their hero uses ?
I personally got sucked into it as we all have. Is their any bats  available EXACTLY like the ones used by those at the top top level ?
Cheers
Hayden

It's gone on for years and probably always will!
But some bats are based on the players profile whereas others will simply have their profile bats made and then the relevant stickers applied which they are advertising that season.
I guess the closest profile to the actual player being offered are the GM Players bats.

Gray nics are pretty accurate, usually players use a their preferred stock shape with their endorsed stickers on...i.e. cook using a legend with oblivion stickers

It's the same with any other product, do you really think the celebs advertising creams and shampoos actually use them.

What it this scenario occurs.

Player gets sponsored by GM, player goes to an independant bat maker to get bats made, GM pay Bat maker for making the bats. Does this make that bat maker employed by GM and the bats legitimate GM bats?

What about when they make no attempt to cover the original branding, but put their sponsors stickers on?
E.g Dhoni putting Reebok stickers on a TON bat, is this still misleading as he's clearly showing who actually makes the bat...

I totally agree but then again they are not actually stating anywhere that they are using say a GM bat just because their stickers are on the bat.

At the end of the day the stickers could be for an accountants or a solicitors. They are just stickers and advertising for a brand just like the Investec signs are on the pitch.

All GM players use GM made bats dispite what anyone tells you, it may and will have happened in the past but you would be surprised with the amount of players that use stock shapes
