Durham and northumberland, Repside good? Scorecard, added
« on: June 24, 2013, 09:22:22 PM »

Been picked to play in my leagues rep side against the Durham and Northumberland league.

How's the standard up there? I know it's hard to compare various leagues. Just thought opie ask if anyone plays in it on here?

Depends who's selected.  It's a step down from the Premier League, but there's some very good players in that league, far better than I certainly.  Some teams have overseas players, Mark Cosgrove played for Ponteland a few years ago, Anwar Hafeez is playing there now I think.  Some very good quicks, and some beautiful grounds too if you're heading north for the game?

Just checked that out, Cosgrove was at Swalwell, same league.  Never played against him or saw him play, but apparently he was frighteningly good.

I assumed he means the Northumberland and Tyneside Senior League - which is representative of Durham and Northumberland Cricket Boards.  If he means the Premier League, that's a whole different kettle of fish, very talented cricket playing fish.

Yeah that's what I assumed too; some very handy players in both! My take is they won't have a full team anyway as the Swalwell lads wont want to turn out for the league.

Unfortunately I only know what I was told. And that was its vs Durham and Northumberland league. So you may well be right, and it's joint venture of two boards.

Game is played In Durham, at Philadelphia cc.

We normally get ut played in these games anyway, still looking forward to it though.

Craig Moffat who now plays for Hallam came from Swalwell CC to train with us (MWCC) for a bit before he moved on to Hallam's 1st XI. He says its a very similar standard to the South Yorkshire League Prem so they will be decent but its all about who they select.

I know with the South Yorkshire League rep side they will only pick players from Div 1 and below and nobody from the premier league.

Philadelphia is a nice enough ground! A nice wicket to bat on! And as for that team, that is no where near full strength for what they could put out, just depends who plays on the day!

That's Neil Killeen formerly of Durham with over 250 first class wickets btw.

Some other good players in there, but like a few others have said, quite a few missing too.
