Can I use this glue to fix few cracks on a bat?
« on: July 24, 2013, 03:21:53 PM »

It doesn't say this is PVA based , shop assistant said this is stronger than PVA so not sure what to buy...

If this doesn't work then what make/brand of glue I should be buying?

Get the weatherproof one.  That's what I use

You mean the exact same brand as the picture?

Blue one is weatherproof, so I'll buy that one then. BTW shop assistant said this is not PVA based though

I have a bottle of that at the moment.  So long as it is wood glue and water/weatherproof it should do the trick.  haven't had anything I've glued recently come apart yet.

Thanks, bought one of them.

Having said that, I use the normal interior one and never had any problems with anything coming unstuck even after oiling, sanding, knocking, more oiling

It shouldn't come unstuck, but I'd rather have the extra peace of mind that I've used weather/waterproof glue.

One last question guys,

Can I dilute this glue with water to make it easier to run down cracks?

Yeah, you can.  Don't over dilute it though, otherwise it won't hold.  You shouldn't need too much water

Expensive isn't it?

How much of it do you get through?

I've got a huge vat of PVA that wasn't much more than this. I've never had a complaint about a repair not holding.

I've got a big vat on it's way to me.  had a lot of broken bat toes from guys at my club to repair recently and ran out in the middle of repairing one, so had to nip down B&Q to get a bottle.  I keep hold of the bottle though, as the nozzle is useeful for squeezing glue into cracks.  Just refill the bottle from the tub when it's empty.

I use printer ink refill needles to get the glue into the tiniest of gaps - maybe I'm a bit OTT but it works brilliantly!

I'll bear that in mind.  I've also tried piping glue in the way you would with icing on a cake and a very fine nozzle.  Works well, but can be quite messy if the glue is watered down!

If it is a long crack that is still quite closed up, there was a tip to squeeze some glue in the crack after making it a little wider, then use a straw to blow down which should get the glue right deep into the clack?
I thought that sounded like a decent idea!
