Shopping for my first bat (T20)
« on: July 25, 2013, 06:28:09 PM »

Hello,

I'm new to these forums and to Cricket (T20) in general, been playing 3 years. I'm a convert from Baseball.

I'm in a unique position in that I'm shopping for a T20 bat. And there are no shops here with cricket bats. So I'm going to have to buy online. There are so many choices... I've been pouring through these forums reading up on reviews, recommendations. Some noteables, perhaps? Black Cat Joker, Newbery TT, Shark Cricket, Kippax.

Anything I choose is going to be expensive I reckon. But I do spend 300$CAD on ice hockey sticks, so it's not like I am unwilling to pay for quality/performance.

The mongoose mmi3 is awesome. If not a tad extreme. Mine was bought in 2009 and is still going strong.

The mongoose cor3 on the other hand I never got on with, didn't feel right and my kahuna at the time was actually bigger than it.

The kookaburra kahuna t20. Seen three, all pressed hard, and not a lot of go. Avoid like the plague.

There the 3 I've had experience with.

A note, the black cat joker, is not full width!!

Hi mate, I would PM either: Ryan, SillyShilly, Beach cricket, Mad_abt_cricket, or Blank bats, and ask them about sourcing/making one for you.

I have had bats from Ryan, and a fair few from Blankbats, the one from ryan was very good, however, if I was in the market for a bat like this, I would go to Blankbats.

I guess I should have thought this through more...

I do exclusively play T20.. But should I be going after a T20 style bat, or a traditional bat? I should learn to play real cricket? Or should I be trying to smash lots of balls with a T20 bat?

It depends on what you like to do Kyle! Personally, I would always go for a normal sized bat, but that's because it's what I'm used to. Maybe have a try with some of your teammate's bats and see which one you like, and what kind of weight you like. :)

Couldn't disagree more about all the ones i have handpicked. There is no denying there were some ropey ones in the boxes i chose from though.

indeed Mr vitas.

buying from a quality dealer that takes pride in there bat choice. then he may get q good one.
but if he's randomly ordering from a cheap American online site, chances are it'll be a shocker.

Affinity Toro hands down.

Toro gets my vote too. Mine plays very well and I'm looking forward to using it in a game soon.

I'd go along with the Affinity Toro and also highly recommend the Hammer Vapen. Jason's putting out some really, really good quality sticks. Well worth looking at Hammer Cricket, especially if your in Canada/USA parts of the world.
