Fighting the Urge!!!!
« on: October 09, 2013, 10:49:19 AM »

Guys,

My name is James, I'm a bat addict and its been 6 months since my last bat purchase.

I honestly cant believe it, the seasons just finished, our square still looks playable (well i've played on worse) and i'm already fighting a losing battle against the 'i NEED a new bat urge'.

I'm not a bat collector or a hoarder, I turn the bats over and sell them on when they have 'stopped working' also known as 'I fancy a new one' but this can be quite costly in itself.

I'm currently employing the trusty old strategy of 'see if there are any proper bargains on any auction websites' to try and stop or delay a costly new bat purchase. Ive also bought some new grips and tape to see if tarting up my old bat scratches the itch (this is the equivalent of asking the wife to wear the nurses uniform to bed).

To put my problem into perspective: 1) my Chase FLC looks like new. 2) Its wasted on me anyway. 3) I'm primarily an opening bowler and bat 7 or 8. 4) Truth be told i'm actually proper crap at batting.

I'm naming this new bat urge CMS - 'Cricket Magpie Syndrome' (nice shiny things, no wonder the crafty bat manufacturers use reflective stickers!!).

The worst thing about this all is that I know in the dark recesses on my mind and my heart that i'm kidding myself here, the decision is already made. As soon as you buggers start posting the new Xmas bats on this forum or photo's from next years pre-season trade shows I just know I'll crumble and I'll be in for another one.

I will as always: 1) Try and hide or justify this purchase to the wife - she'll 'sh** a brick either way'. 2) Justify this to myself with crap excuses such as - you always need 2 bats, what if one broke, they take a good while to knock in. (i've probably only batted 6 times this season in all).

Does anyone else suffer with this as badly as I do?

Thank you for listening and letting me share my pain - (please do my bank balance a favour and delete my account and my access to this forum).

On another note: anyone got the chase FLC R11 pads and can tell me if they are any good as you ALWAYS need 2 pairs of pads!!!!!

there are in the region of 750 members of this forum who have been on here in the last 40 days.

All of them feel your pain.

Pete Hosk is top of that list ;)

Hi James

You came to the right place!!  ;)
I am you but in 2 years time! My collection numbers around 120 bats....but that's only cos I sold around 30 bats this year!  >:(
In fairness I am a collector so have a few older bats too. Not sure if calling myself a collector is accurate, or just an excuse to justify me purchasing so many!
I do hope to reduce my collection down to a sensible nunber of bats - a sensible number to me is back into double figures!
So I am probably the worst bat hoarder you will meet on here, but there are others who have 20, 30 or more bats....so I am not alone in my obsession! And you are certainly not alone in this condition.

On this forum it is generally known as B.A.D. or Bat Acquisition Disorder.  ;)

Six months since your last purchase? You're going to have to step up your game to be referred to as a bat addict.

Very few of us need a new bat, you can only use one at a time. But hell - life is too short not to indulge yourself once in a while. No matter your ability, no matter where you bat - the love of willow can strike anyone at anytime.

While my number of bats has reached double figures - I'm always on the lookout for something new. If only to see how it goes and compares to other bats....

Great thread.  Not sure how this forum could possibly be an effective venue for rehab, though?!  :o ???

It would be like holding an AA meeting at Vinopolis!!  :)

I've bought another 3 this week :( really do need to talk to someone soon about my B.A.D syndrome, just need to make sure its not Pete,Simonany, Chad, come to think of it most on this forum.

In all seriousness I think I have enough bats now.

3 this week, that's making my 5 (or is it 6) this year look much more acceptable.
My B.A.D must be mild ;)

Indeed it is, looking forward to knocking her in over the winter ready for use in Sunday league cricket next season. Will post a pic of my new collections in the next few days.

Maybe it's because of the season ending and me being bored but.

I bought two from Uzi last week.

I have another b3 being made currently,

Want two cheap similar bats to experiment with, and am just about to order another ss. Whoops
