I think you need something with a mesh inside, leather wears out quicker.

I had a lovely pair of Slazenger the other year, shame until they split down the stitching.  Have you tried some GN legend pads? Heard good things about them and they were quite cheap in PDC if I remember.

I do really like the ss and sf pads. Those ss embossed wilkie had looked lovely.

I've noticed that my Gray Nicholls Legends are wearing away in odd places too, infact there is barely any wear from where you'd think from use, so my guess is that they get worn out when I'm moving my bag around. Just a thought for you...
