Puma
« on: October 28, 2013, 01:21:53 AM »

I have been seeing some really nice puma's in Australia recently. They look amazing with there grains but also have an AMAZING ping and rebound! Anyone know much about them?
Thanks

Yeah, they are making some crackers. I bought my-self a Puma Black edition It pings ridiculously good and the edges are huge it weighs, it's 2.8 and has 42 mm edges but picks up like a 2.6.

Made by SS, the reason the pickup is so good is because of the amount of wood taken out of the back.

generally I agree that Puma bats are concaved, but have a look at this one I picked up from Pro Direct - http://custombats.co.uk/cbforum/index.php?topic=26605.0;topicseen

Not much concaving there!  I decided to keep it and yes, it pings very, very well...

The Platinum Black has no concaving. It is a full profile. Fantastic pickup for such a big bat.

Puma are made in the SS factory. It is a completely separate section of the factory - essentially a factory within a factory.

It could be that the ones going to Australia are all made by SS, but I'm told that for UK 2014 half are made by Sareen and half by Sondhi.

Yep you are wrong and SS have no presence in Aus only through a distribution agent.

As oppose to Gunn and Moore who have an Australian office set up here.....no wait GM in Australia is distributed by Addlon. They are not a subsidiary of GM UK but merely a distributor. This is the distribution model that is common in Australia because the Australian market is not huge. I agree that SS is not big here but you have to keep in mind that the brands that tend to sell in any given market are the brands that are well supported by the elite players in that market. SS does not have any high profile Australian players that I can think of using their gear in domestic first class matches. Sponsoring the right players has a huge impact on sales figures.
To say that they have no presence though is a bit harsh. I see a lot of their bats being used around Brisbane. Are we the only place in Australia where these bats are being used?
And I would think that when 2 of the biggest cricket specialists in the country are selling your bats you can probably claim to have some presence in the market.

I should be able to track down the Puma agent. When I find out who it is I'm sure he will be able to resolve it.
