Fusion seemed such a popular company over the last 2 years, but recently there seems to have been so little said and written about them.

Any reasons for this do you think - is it because they have increased their prices so much? Is it because they have sold the Skyer?

Be interested to know why you think it has gone so quiet.

I think it is down to Tom moving on to Mongoose.... Nothing like having Tom on your side on the forums if you are a manufacturer

I think they have readjusted to serving their local area with quality service, hard to do via mail order for anyone. Plus the Tom factor will be a major one in respect to the forum's.

My guess is he is saying that he thinks fusion are now focusing more on providing a quality service and quality gear for the local area, in places where people can come and visit and pick up etc, rather than deal with emails and mailing things out all over the country and trying to provide the same service you would for locals as you may for everyone in the uk. But i dunno....

and i think he means the tom factor is that he is very influential on the forums with his apparent knowledge and many people listen and go by what he says so whichever brand he follows and talks about on the forum it could have a broader effect on how the brand looks on the whole forum. e.g. when tom was working with fusion or whatever he did and got some of your bats he raved about what you did and how good it was so other people tried them and raved about them to, sort of like a snowball effect. however now tom has moved on to mongose there is no-one starting the snowball effect and so fusion isn't getting talked about as much...

As Fusion is not sold in general cricket shops I would think it would be best served by concentrating on the USP's such as the bats being finished in front of the customer and also the try out in the net. These services are not available to mail order sales and so I would think you are concentrating on being a good small brand rather than a big poor brand such as Slazenger/Kookaburra etc.

The "Tom factor" would be that he marketed the brand very well and brought it to the forum in a very good manner to general attention. I'm sure you must be kicking yourselves that you lost him as someone with that knowledge and ability is near impossible to find. How has the season been for you, feel free to drop me a line if you are buying any willow next season as I have a growing store of it.

i think the fact tom has stopped working for them is it partly,

a couple of bat reviews havnt said quite how good there bat is compared to how it ones was ect.

I have had 2 bats from Fusion last season and they both played really well. Service was great and both Bill and James were very easy to deal with and explain what I wanted.

As for the mail order part, not sure why it is being mentioned. If someone orders a bat online with and major retailer or directly with Fusion, Salix or Newbery or Redback or H4L etc. , wouldn't it be the same.

Probably one of the things I would like to see Fusion do is to get bats with at least 2 different profiles (apart from their standard shape) in their range. The middle is about mid-mid and it will help to get bat with a mid-low and a low middle in their range.

What's meant by 'Off the boil'? My exposure to Fusion definitely started with CSF - until then I hadn't really heard of them. I'm not sure how much credit Tom should get for that - definitely some, though back in the day Bill used to post on CSF more often too.

Fusion certainly seem to be less in fashion these days. I think part of this is that their rise to fame brought a bit more attention to small custom companies. The emergence of Redback, Hell4Leather, CE and SAF has maybe taken away some of their market share from 2 years ago (I'm saying that without any proof, it's just a gut feel) - anyway, despite the perception of members this forum I'm sure (and I hope) that Fusion are still doing well - I for one am glad to see them giving this forum some backing and getting involved.

And next time I get a new custom bat (and our boiler was condemned last week, so unfortunatley it's going to be a long time until I can afford one) I'll be giving them a ring to see what they can offer me.

Service the local area mostly and happy to do so, get great pleasure in seeing people playing with them and ask about others that I cant see. I doubt that my sales have impacted any of the brands you mentioned

as I haven't seen any player use them. I dont overly advertise any where really but nice to see the name mentioned so possibly another reason.... Each to there own I say to few hand made bat makers around using traditional tools in my opinion

Johnny Firefly - What I meant by 'Off the boil' was there seemed to be fewer and fewer posts about Fusion, a quick look back over this board shows you how many reviews were posted in what was quite a short time. I remember coming on here and fusion topics being carried out all the time (sometimes it was hard to keep track!)

I do like the thought that the rise of Fusion on these boards gave rise to other smaller brands. I owned a fusion and it was good, but my next bat was by another small English independant bat maker.

Maybe Fusions success has been there problem?

Problem as in there has not been as many reviews or discussion threads started in recent times as there once was - which is why I started this thread. Im not knocking fuion having owned a Fusion bat and I use my Skyer before matches and at training.

Perhaps 'Problem' was not the right word to have used, but other people have elluded to the possible causes for the recent decline in postings
