even I wondered why "that" bat is missing, should have been 1 of the first ones to be shown.

He could use a bit of plywood and make it seem like a good bat!

I don't want to sound like a cynic, more of a general question. Why would he need to use bats that big? I understand the whole point that a heavier bat makes the ball go further but Don Bradman used a bat that weighed 2lb5oz and was much more prolific. Is it likely that Tendulkar's reputation for being one of the best batsmen of all time is helped out by having a rediculously heavy bat helping him out? And if so is he really as good as people think or is he aided by these bats?

I find that the heavier the bat is the worse I play, and also if a bat is too light aswell. I know there is personal preference and all that, but some of his bats weigh over 3lb and that seems a bit OTT. Yes he is an amazing talent but is he made out to be better by being supplied with immensely heavy bats?

I think that it's down to his childhood. If I remember correctly what I heard, he was the youngest and had to share kit. Obviously that meant using a bat heavier than he should have for his age, so he's always been used to a heavy bat.

That might be a load of tosh but I'm sure I heard that somewhere

It still amazes me that people think Tendulkar was overrated. How much more as a cricketer can you achieve? It Boggles the mind.

He is simply used to a heavier bat from early days , There are many theories to the pros and cons of using a heavier bat. It definitely contributed to his back pain and tennis elbow. There were a few articles on his choice of bat weight online but how relevant they are is debatable. Some even go to the extent of saying that he would have bigger scores if he had used a lighter bat and thus preventing muscle soreness later in the innings. He has a very low bottom hand grip which certainly helps with using a heavy bat and a smaller range of motion because of a shorter arm length. I think he found the right weight and shape suited for his game and let his talent and hard work do the rest.

I think weight of the bat is an individual's choice, There are not many players around the world who would like to play with a bat that heavy. If Sachin is playing with it with the kind of his physical structure it has to be about his technical abilities of using that bat. Sir Don Bradman would have played with a heavier bat if it was suitable to his batting style, I believe heavier bats were available in his era as well.

I have seen my batting style change recently and my preference has since changed to a heavier bat.

Do you not think that anyone has the option to a heavier bat, so if that was true everyone would have one? Still got to wield the blade

Just seems like making it hard work for himself being a smaller guy and especially facing bowlers of 90mph+. I'm an opening batsman in my club and my weight range is 2.7-2.8 as I like to have enough time to play as many types of shot that I can.

I think most batsmen these days prefer slightly lighter willow as it helps when facing pace bowlers, having said that I borrowed a team mates' bat which was made for Ashley Giles and he managed to get hold of it. Weighed 2.12 and I used it in a 20/20 game which was greats against slow bowlers and the ball flew off it, but wasn't so effective against pace.

Each to their own I suppose.

Tendulkar using a Heavier, lower middled, Asian style bat makes perfect sense to me. You face a lot of spin in Asia and the ball rarely moves off straight for the seamers so you don't need a light bat really.

He would quite often swap in a heavier bat to swat the spinners with in the IPL.

We need to admire his abilities, facing top fast bowlers around the world with a bat that heavy. He has faced both pacers & spin bowlers throughout his career and has played a lot of cricket around the world (and just not in Asia).

Then by that logic, Tendulkar should have used a 2lb 5oz to be closer to Bradman? Bat weights are all down to preference, and if he used a heavy bat, he would have to have strong arms to do so. How can you then go on and say that he's only as good as he is because he uses a heavy bat? He was better because he used what felt comfortable to him, as you said, you can go too light or too heavy at times, which affects your ability to bat. To be able to face 90mph+ with any weight of bat takes skill, I think it would be silly to say he was only as good as he was because he used heavy bats...
