isn't dhoni rated the no. 1 batsmen in one dayers at the moment? also i rarely see him make mistakes behind the stumps, aswell as being captain. hes got a lot going for him!

Bucko - Dhoni is overrated which way?
Dhoni, is the best captain going around, by a long stretch.
most importantly his keeping ain't too bad either.

What makes you think hes the best Captain around i have to say i dont agree with that!
And his keeping is average the chance he drops or doesnt get close to could cost 100's of runs!

Same could be said of any keeper dropping a catch, like Prior.

Dhoni's record as captain speaks for its self,
CB Series victory
World Twenty/20 Championship victory
ODI Series Win against Pakistan
Test Series Win Against Australia
Two ODI's series Wins against Sri Lanka
Test and ODI Series Wins against England
Test and ODI Series Wins against New Zealand

Pretty good return IMO

Do india win because dhoni is very good captain?? or because they are the better side? As my gran would say you cant make a silk purse out of a sow's ear

Well Dravid and Kumble also lead the side that Dhoni has inherited, yet their records weren't as good as Dhoni's. So it proves that Dhoni brings the best out of the team.

No it doesnt prove that, you say dravid and kumble led the same team well on paper they did but you now have players like ishant sharma and gambir who have matured into good test cricketers. Does dhoni take credit for this as well then? or is it just incidental?

Well obviously Dhoni takes credit for this, when you had a strong captain, everyone learns and develops quicker.

Dravid and Kumble mighty fine players, legends of the game, but captaincy wasn't either of theirs strong point. More often than not, they would wait for something to happen before reacting.

Dhoni on the other hand makes things happen, thinks out of the box.

i really dont know how to answer you jeet nothing i say is going to change how you think about dhoni, but to claim that gambhir and and sharma are better players and in form because of dhoni is just garbage. going on your reasoning in the 2nd test gambhir shouldnt have scored a run and sharma should have gone around the park

i would like to see dhoni lead an bad side and then you would find out a lot more about his captaincy

Ricky ponting has a longer list of series wins, does this make him the best captain ever???

SoS, please show me where I said Dhoni is the greatest captain ever. I had shown why I think Dhoni's the best captain in the world cricket atm.

Secondly, Gambhir scoring runs in the 2nd Test has nothing to do with Dhoni, Dhoni has added the belief to the players and is making them perform well, as to reach the team goal, World Number 1 status. That doesn't mean if he's not playing that the team will go down like a lead balloon.

Also, if Dhoni has a good side, it's hardly his fault. India has had bad sides in the past, now we have a very good side, so it's Dhoni's good fortune.

to be fair, dhoni captained the side that won the world 2020 nearly 2 years ago when sharma and gambhir were pretty much unheard of, and were not reknown for high run scoring and wicket getting..... i seem to remember them beating australia in the semi final as well.

GMH - please explain what stupidity and utter rubbish you are referring to?

Bucko - that may well be the case, but the captain still has to lead example, which MSD has done.
