I'm using this approach at the moment with an Icon Original that I got for £80 from ProDirect.

I definitely middle more balls, and I also feel much more mobile/able to play more shots. For example, with an SH I really struggle to capitalise on legside deliveries, but with the harrow I'm pretty much on it.

Only downside is that I have noticed the lack of blade length at times. Shots that I would normally middle, I might toe, but I guess I'm still getting used to it. Harrow bats feel a little flimsier, and I'm not quite trusting mine against inswing into the pads at all, but hopefully over time I can begun to have faith in it.

I'd say buy a cheap one and have a go before comitting, though it has taken me a long time to even get close to getting along with mine.
To be honest, I'll see how the GM goes but will probably move onto my Mjolnir and eventually my new JpGavan bat by the start of the season.

Thanks, interesting findings. I think you may be right, I may try and pick one up cheap 2ndhand to see how I get on over a period of time rather than buy expensive without using for a decent trial.

My custom Red Ink, Laver, SAF, and also the new Kippax are all have half an inch shorter blade, I'm 5ft 7"

Not sure a shorter handle would work if you naturally held it at the bottom

Am I right in thinking it should be just like kids bats, length of bat to equal the height of your hip???

I stand corrected, my red ink is one inch shorter

Half inch doesnt sound very much. Are these all in Harrow size? I dont like the thought of a narrower blade of a Harrow even though its a very small amount.

The narrower blade is so minimal you wouldn't notice t if you weren't told mate.
Just think I it as the wood being closer the the middle where you need it ;)

I would suggest contacting a custom bat maket. Red ink, rk, aldred. And discuss a custom bat with them.

Harrow length
Sh width
Your weight
Your profile,

That way you'll get best off both worlds.

We have a couple of 2.8 harrow bats in stock from H4L and M&H.  They are the top grade and, whilst still expensive for a harrow in general, are much, much cheaper than their SH counterparts, so given the quality of willow, I feel they offer brilliant value! The M&H CK22 we have has typical SH specs too: 38mm edges and a 65mm spine... Here are the links - I think either would be a very good way to make use of our CBF2014 discount code!!  ;)

I got excited the H4L one was £125 pro grade there for a second then I noticed that was for size 5 !!! What is the length and width of the blade on the H4L Harrow. I like the idea of utilising your £20.14 off offer !

Slightly different angle on this.

Would I be able to chop off half an inch off the handle on one of my short handles?

Would it need carefully doing or could I just use an electric saw?
How badly would pick up be affected and could this be offset with lead tape?
Does the top of the handle need to have the wider notch?

half an inch, isn't a lot but it helps, they are all full adult width - just down to personal preference,

My red ink is probably harrow height, but adult width, 2lb 8 with offset edges and the bat speed is ace :)

I am getting confused here, sounds like most Harrows are half an inch shorter than LH, is that right? Sounds like your red inch is actually an inch shorter. I thought they were all slightly narrower too, but again the red ink is full width.

I am also confused about recommended heights for Harrow now, depends on which chart you look at. Some seem to say up to 5'6" others up to 5'8"

I am not sure bat handle length is going to help me. My bottom hand is always tight to the bottom of the handle anyway.

If you look at the GM chart harrow is for anyone up to 5'6'' but other charts recommend up to 5'8'' which is a big difference. Anyone know what the blade length difference is?
