This thread isnt going to end well....

Chill out Tom!

The song is intended to be funny...and it is!

It even throws a reference to Greg Inglis (who plays State of Origin for QLD) as actually being born in NSW!

This sort of stuff goes on everywhere in different guises.

Why does it matter to you Australians anyway, you have the Ashes, now let us sit and feel sorry for ourselves, and not bait us further

As I spent most of 2013 in that state, I know exactly what you are going through!

We're uptight Brits AW! It's what we're best at!

However, you poke as many Poms as you want - it keeps us on our toes!

Without watching the video, I guess KP will be a standout one, someone who chose to leave his "home" test playing nation for another.

There will be a lot who moved to a country very young or are from a non-test-playing nation.  Would be harsh to say to a teenager that he has to go live somewhere else if he wants to play test cricket in the future even though he had been living in this country for a number of years.

The ones who decide that they want to get residential status somewhere else, such as KP, are the ones which probably rile up most people.  They want to play at the best standard possible, clubs want the best eligible players, they are eligible due to certain rules, they all win in the end.

These ECB rules have been tightened up so hopefully it will be a lot more difficult to "choose" your nation.

England just make the most of the eligible player available (not that this test series proved that).

This thread was made for Vic Nicholas! Loves a good Aus vs English argument!

If conquering/colonising 3/4 of the globe isn't good for a strong cricket team then what was it good for?

The more I think about this, it's less the fact of the qualification and playing for England: if they're committed then fair beans. It's why we bloody need them in the first place. That's the crux of it.

KP left due to a racist selection policy nothing else. Who here would not do the same if they were left out for a player of different skin colour or ethnic origin despite being a far better player? Justin Ontong I believe was one player picked ahead of KP under SAs racist quota system and what a fine international player he turned out to be

If South Africa was such a great country, sporting or otherwise, these guys wouldn't keep leaving it

Moises Henriques: Parents immigrated to Oz when he was a baby. Also, Portugal isn't a test playing nation.

Nor for that matter are Ireland, Kenya, Papua New Guinea.....

I think the point with this argument is that there is no point - I doubt you would ever get two people, let alone two thousand, who would agree on a definition of what constitutes Englishness - or for that matter Australianness (save the genetic desire to drink bloody awful beer!) - I would not personally allow moves of convenience a la Trott, Pietersen, Lamb, Fawad and Balance but figure there is much less of an issue where a kid is almost exclusively raised in the country and none at all where the player is a kid born abroad to parents of the stated nationality (especially when many of the older guys mentioned were born whilst their parents were stationed abroad either militarily or diplomatically).

Though as a side issue, I have found it funny to look at the number of players in Australian sports squads who have gone through Heathrow on their British passports  :D

Would it be noble for a player who could play for England refuse meaning they never play test cricket?

Yes, for the day they're in the press.

They would then be forgotten......
