With regards juniors it makes no odds whether it is guidance or law. If the new Ecb guidelines for juniors wearing helmets reference the new BS and doesn't include any caveats, then clubs should be following ECB guidance, if they don't it would leave them open to legal action.

If we were to sell a helmet that did not meet the standard, we wouldn't have a leg to stand on when it came to public liability insurance or if we were sued by the parent of an injured child etc. Same goes for the manufacturers if they produced a helmet that didn't meet the standard.

The lab up there isnt one thats BSI certified as far as im aware, they just have the facilities to carry out pre-lim testing to provide an indication of how the helmets will perform under the test conditions.

All manufacturers have access to this if they choose to submit helmets and pay for the testing to be carried out.

There are details of the BSI lab where helmet testing takes place if you dig through the BSI website. There is also a list of accredited labs that you can get by going to the BSI and asking (I don't think it's on the web) - I'm not sure whether these have cricket helmet testing facilities.

There seems to be a misconception that Loughborough is where the BSI tests take place. This isn't the case. As Tom says, they have facilities that you can pay for to use in order to pre-test your product and provide a level of confidence of your ability to pass the BSI test and carry the BS label.

I inspect, maintain  and insure the gas systems at a testing facility in Kettering. Satra technology.
Last year when I was in for there inspection, they had a skip full off cricket helmets with various scars on them. I didn't recognise them, and they had no badges on though. But as it was early last year would presume they was testing to last years standards.

That place mainly works with shoes/trainers/clothing and have robot legs running on treadmills, and an awesome propane burner where they dress up mannequins, and then light it up to test fire retardness.

Yes they were able to test to the 1998 standard there as they had the equipment to do so, the whole point in the new test is so that lab such as this can update their equipment to be able to carry out the testing.

Products once tested are disposed of unless you specifically request to have them returned (which I find particularly useful for design analysis so we have always asked for them back).

Awaiting official confirmation but I would hope that a few arent far off as with the July deadline we will need to get stuff booked in and signed off.

As mentioned by Tim in another thread pre-lim tests have given us a fair indication of where we stand with the product range in regards to passing the new standard and as we tested above and beyond the required speeds were confident it their abilities to perform as desired.

It's a standard. If the Mcc or ICC impose a law stating that a helmet meeting the standard must be used,  that's different.

Ultimately its the law, as if you sell a product that does not adhere to BSi standards, you maybe prosecuted by trading standards.
