B&S Limited Edition Bat
« on: January 23, 2014, 09:29:46 AM »

Having toyed with the idea of getting a B&S bat for a while and spoken to Jake about it on various occasions I eventually took the decision to get one having seen the new 2014 stickers. At first I decided to go for a Scorch as I quite fancied a bat with a slightly higher middle but after a few problems which Jake was really quick and friendly about resolving I opted for the Limited Edition and am really glad I did.
The stickers are stunning and look even better in the flesh so to speak. The bat has 8-9 pretty straight grains with only a slight blemish on the face just below the sticker. It weighs 2lb 9oz and picks up a tad lighter which is really impressive given the lack of concaving. It has a slight bow and I love the shape - fairly thick edges all the way down to the toe but still a decent spine size. It just feels good in the hands.
A couple of interesting observations. The handle is quite thin but I like this as will certainly put another half a grip under the bottom hand and it is nicely oval at the bottom. The bat face also looks slightly thinner at the top of the blade. I am pretty sure this is an optical illusion created by the shape of the stickers but I know others have commented on whether B&S bats are slightly thinner in the past. Certainly the main body of the bat is a regular width. The grip is also pretty cool - along the lines of the GM Ripple grips and I really like the fact that it is predominantly white with a bit of colour.
So all in all it looks like being a great bat and I can't wait to use it. Jake at Vitas was extremely helpful throughout the process and certainly made me feel like I was getting personal attention. Thanks, Jake.
Hope you enjoy the photos.

The stickers look a little busy to me. IMO should be 2 or 3 colours, the lighter blue/cyan colour would look better darker blue.
The front stickers look nice, but the back stickers spoil it a little. And the side stickers would be better if they were smaller and more subtle, or just an LE branded on there?
But saying that, the profile looks nice, and I know how well these B&S bats go!!! I have had a couple and still have one. And I have had a go with a few others and they have all been guns!
So although my opinion is that the stickers could be toned down a little (personal taste,) this is a trivial thing compared to the feel and response on these bats!
Hope it goes well for you fella!

Thanks for the review, mate.  We are seriously considering stocking this brand, so this has made for a very useful read...

Just thought I'd post an update on this bat now that I have used it for a good number if games.
It us without doubt the best bat I have used in recent memory, and I have had a lot if bats in the last few years including SS, Laver and Wood, GN, Red Ink and others. The lack of concaving means it is very forgiving and even mis-timed shirts tend to go pretty well. When I do get it somewhere near the middle it rockets away and the only way I can really describe it is that sometimes I don't even feel the ball hitting the bat! I have heard people mention this before but never really experienced it. It certainly gives me a lot more confidence when batting and I don't feel the need to hit the ball too hard, something that has certainly been my downfall in the past.
It now gas a GM ripple grip which I love but it is a little heavier and thicker than the previous grip. This actually seems to help the pick-up and although it now weighs about 2lb 10oz it still has a beautiful feel and I don't even think about it's weight in my hands, again something that I have found a problem in the past with other bats.
So, I would strongly recommend B&S to anyone looking for a great performing and great value bat, especially with the quality provided at Vitas. I may well consider getting another one before next season!
