Bat twisting in hands
« on: January 30, 2014, 07:42:42 PM »

Alright Lads,
I have a bat thats quite concaved, feels nice and I love the handle; however it turns in my hands on some shots. Im just wondering is this down to the grip which is a snake grip, my gloves, my batting grip or the lack of meat on off center shots?

Cheers
Tony

Could be down to the handle shape mate, is it round or oval?

Handle is a nice round at the top oval at the bottom handle and feels lovely!
It's my salix, and the face is round

when you say it twists it physically spins in your hands?? Or the bat moves on contact and your wrist twists?

Personally I think it twists physically, however Procricket has told me it's the way my bat comes down and my grip set up

flat faced bats are meant to try and spin when hit off centre. and oval handles are meant help.

but as yours is flat faced and oval that matters not alot.

do you grip hard with your bottom hand? or Do you hold it losely??

if it is physically twisting you arent holding it tightly enough. If on contact the bat turns then your wrist isnt strong enough or there is something not right with the grip or downswing like ProCricket says. I remember your bottom hand being a little strangeand you were working on it, maybe thats causing it?

Does it mean the ball doesnt go where you want it to and you are edging it?

What I have seen you tend to play with a closed face mate and that exagirates the twist on impact have a look at your bat I bet most of the balls are on the inner side of the bat

In the nets you tended to hit straight ball through the leg side .

It could be a grip issue or gloves but most issues like this are caused by the face and caused by the back swing not coming down at the correct angle mate

from the videos he posted on here his bottom hand was closed off, it was towards the inside edge instead of down the splice or towards the outside edge

that would cause him to play with a closed off face or towards leg, a bit like graeme smith
