Simple question, Are all Gray Nics made in England?

Seen a bit of talk about custom GN bats being better than the off the shelf and interested to know why.

Also, anyone know what the stamps J and R stand for on my Maverick 5 star.

Really depends which shelf. I have only seen 4 or 5 bats break in matches and they have all been greys. It could just be co incidence but they were all from sports direct.

No, I've heard of an Indian factory but don't know what models/ranges they make

My Maverick came from sports direct during their mad sale this winter. I'm knocking it in at the moment and I have been impressed with the response so far.

Nearly all UK sold bats are made in the GN Indian factory.  Custom orders are made locally. Sometimes you do find UK made stock bats,  like when they ran out of dynasties,  just not very often.

Pelican 042  is correct G.N.do have bats manufactured in India. At robertsbridge they make pro bats,custom bats and players bats such as the legend.

could be but it wasn't their first bat so I doubt it. All bats played very well though. Usual nitro, powerbow models as far as I can recall.

I was at the Cook & Matthews cricket show in Kent of Wednesday and Gray Nicolls were there with there Rep and they stated openly that very little is made in UK. The UK base basically deals in refurbs, the custom experiences and pro bats and that's about it.

Gray Nicolls have a wholly owned set up in India. Separate from the likes of SG,  etc...

Does anyone know when they started to shift their production to India? I have an old powerbow 5 star (possibly 2007 range) and an ignite 4 star (2009 range)
so just wondering if they are made in England or not.

Gray Nicolls have a wholly owned set up in India. Separate from the likes of SG,  etc...

Indeed they have their own set up in India, but a lot of the work such as all the pre-prep of the willow and grading, is still all being done at Robertsbridge before the clefts are sent out for the production stage.

Indeed.  Alex has mentioned in the past that they simply ship clefts to India.  They do the tree selection,  splitting,  first stage drying,  etc.

I'm actually going to be in Robertsbridge this Friday, so if I get a chance, I'll try and take some photos of the areas that all the willow is cut, dried, stored and graded in.
