Bat Handle - Round into Oval
« on: March 10, 2014, 11:40:37 AM »

Hello Fellow bat experts,

Can anyone share some tips/techniques or guidance on improvising a standard round handle into the look and feel of a large Oval handle especially from the bottom.

I have thought about double or triple gripping the bottom half compared to the top but does that actually work?

Appreciate your input here.

insulating tape on the top and bottom of the lower part of the handle. Build it up in layers and stick a half grip on the bottom if it needs to be thicker. I'll dig the thread out on how I did mine.

It's nothing clever really!

Just put strips on to mould the top and bottom of the handle how you want it. Be patient as it takes a while to build up. Start with longer strips and get shorter as you build it up. Always spread the strips across the top of the handle. Good thing is you can whip it all off very quickly and start again. As for the half grip, just cut a grip in half and stick it over or under another grip.

I've heard of lollipop sticks being used as well.

Might as well but insulating tape from a Day or electrical shop on line.  It will be no more expensive than eBay.

Aero sell an insert that sits under the grip to provide an oval handle effect. I only briefly held a bat with one fitted but it seemed to work. I may order a few in to see what they are like.

A finger save out of an old goalkeeping glove works as well
