Some of these shops will let you pay for them for their advice... You won't feel obliged to buy from them then.

Any decent running shop will do gait analysis for free. They find out exactly the type of support your feet need. Once that's done then if you are going to rack the miles up then a decent pair of runners is a must. Once that springyness goes from them (everyone knows what I mean), then get new ones. Don't wear them into the ground as your knees, back, ankles are the ones that suffer.

You may dismiss me as I'm now a porka but until 2010 I was stupidly fit and used to run 6 times a week and then do the rest of my sport,, probably why my knee is knackered :(.. I was good too :)
