Old thread , recurring problem . I'm going to buy a pair of morrants in a couple weeks and have been thinking re how to bolster the knee protection too .
Idea 1)- i have a pair of puma evospeed pads ( bmac's , but the 2 strap version ) and they lack a bit in the knee protection department too . They have no knee cup , rather a hard foam insert with velcro on both sides . You attach the insert to the pad then the actual detachable knee bolster velcros onto the foam insert . I may 'borrow' the foam insert for the morrants (provided the velcro will attach) . Or just swap the entire removable shin and knee bolsters from one pair to the other , or both in one pair etc .
Idea 2)- i have a pair of puma iridiums which I'm thrashing via training , bowling machine sessions etc . Maybe I could cut out the knee bolster (it has a knee cup and velcro) and attach it to the morrant knee padding via stick on velcro tape .
Only problem is that all these ideas make the morrants heavier , and then they become 'just another pad' .
(Dumb) idea 3)- slide in a pair of moonwalkr pads behind the morrants ....the sum weight would be about 1150gms , still lighter tthan some !
. But in all seriousness, i think the best solution would be ...
Idea 4)- get some fibretec insert material from old pads ( the sheeting which lines the shin bolster ) , or source similar material , and cut out a flat circular knee cup/reinforcement and secure that behind the morrant knee padding . It would be the least bulky , and possibly the lightest , alternative.
.....there , thats my first post sorted .
