Well I'm off on holiday so miss this weekend.
Sod's law it's bloody marvellous weather, would've loved a game today!  :(

Coming back next Friday then hope to play Saturday, Sunday & Monday to make up for lost time! (And I doubt I'll be able to move on the Tuesday!)

Played for the 3rds today, I'm currently in between the 2nds and 3rds so I don't mind playing for either. We won our game today anyway, we won the toss and bowled. Had them all out for 45 in 22.3 overs and we chased it down without loss.

My figures were: 7-2-20, pretty happy overalls but bowled 3 wides was not happy with that, however had the opening batsman out who has scored 100's against us three times out for 4 after 3 balls in to the game.

Played for mates firsts today in a total mismatch.  We batted first with the opposition having only 7 for the first ten overs. At 9 an over this was tricky for them. When they all turned up,  they struggled on a very hot and humid day,  with seven players observing Ramadan.  We ended up on 331 for 8 off 45.

It didn't start well for them,  but we knew rain was coming so started bowling with me and a spinner,  as we needed to get 20 overs in before the rain came. I was being reasonably miserly on a pitch that was offering not a lot and bowled  5-1-15-1, with the spinner picking up three. From there they got to about 156 with a hat trick for one of our guys and then the rain came.  The batsmen chose to stay on and we bowled them both out to win by 180 runs.

Twas a game that was enjoyable if you were on the winning side,  but being put in to chase on such a hot day with seven men really did for them...

Our Captain won the toss and decided to field first with  just seven players some would say good decision but the fielders might say something else as our bowling went for 293 runs in the sunshine. So then when  we batted it was heads down and play with soft hands for 45 overs for a well deserved draw IMO as the opposition could have declared at around 200 runs of 35 overs and made a game of it and they would have had an an extra ten overs to bowl us out.

First today I got timed out, was busy sunning myself when a fall of wickets meant my off to get changed and padded up - 2 in 2 and still in my shorts s@¥t! Eventually made it into the middle - aeros and gloves under a arm, pad half on. Keeper appealed, mid off gave me a gob full.....fortunately when consulted by the umpires the captain with Drew his appeal (seemed to remember we're playing village cricket!).....mid off still moaning.

Anyway very spongey track (no covers) we got 126 all out, mainly thanks to our veteran opener, with the tail managed to put on a few before being last man out. Bowled them out for 117 (4 for 23 off 12.4 for me). Heavy ground = stiff legs. Very odd game but consolidated 2nd in the league against the 4th place side who beat us first game of the season.

Another win for us against top of the leagueSkitled them for just over 100 and chased it down with 25 overs to spare.4 wins on the bounce now.I was woefull with the bat.I think I got 6 with the bat off around 15 balls, but picked up a customary wicket.

Played top of the league today and had to come out from behind the stumps today as seam bowling was a bit short. They batted well and within themselves with an opening stand of 140 before I had the opener plumb LBW. Then No3 who had been sitting with his pads on went fora mental single first ball got sent back but was run out by 5 yards.

After that they lost a few wickets but managed 229-5 off 46 overs with my figures of 7-1-2-33.

Batting started in the worst way possible with my opener shouldering arms to an in swinger in first over and he was LBW I edged first ball of the next over for 2 past keeper and slip and then nicked my 2nd ball to the keeper and next ball No4 got a vicious bouncer that lobbed to slip to leave us 3 for 4 off 2 overs. Middle order made it look half reasonable but we were bowled out for 157 after trying to hold out for the rain after huge thunder and lightening around the groud but alas the rain never came.

Do oppositions ever lend fielders in cases like this over there? Used to be the done thing here but hardly ever happens now.

I fielded for the opposing team yesterday when they had 2 players off the field due to a nasty collision. But even then I felt it wasn't my place to and I was the skipper of my team.

I think the other aspect to this is that it is a league game and everyone knows when it starts,  so if you can't organise your own players to turn up on time, it's tough.

A couple of years ago we fielded first with 7 men on the hottest day of the year. The opposition batted for 40 of their 46 overs before declaring, leaving us 52 overs to negotiate. We got within 10 balls of securing a losing draw - no chance of chasing their runs down. We were absolutely gutted. We were only 7 because the venue had been changed at the last minute and only those of us at the original ground early enough were able to get to the alternative venue. Our major fail tbh was down to our skip who at that time eschewed the delights of a mobile phone and thus was uncontactable.

I made my come back from a knee injury yesterday. Skipper lost the toss and they elected to bat. I fielded at slip practically all day to protect the knee but unfortunately out keeper is well known for byes if the ball goes anywhere near the stumps and I tweaked it chasing the ball down. Managed to stay on the pitch in a bit of discomfort and we bowled the oppo out for 127. I saw this as an opportunity to rest my knee and asked the skipper to drop me down the order to 7 so I wouldn't have to bat if I wasn't needed. Sure enough within 45 minutes I was padded up and making my way to the middle after a woeful collapse. Luckily enough the three weeks off was used to knock in my new Aldred and it blasted me to 41 dealing mainly in fours and walked ones. I eventually chipped one up to mid on with 12 runs required and our ninth wicket partnership got the required runs for the win.

Very happy with my new bat but very unhappy with my rubbish knee.
