women club cricketers
« on: April 22, 2014, 05:50:45 PM »

what's your views on women playing club cricket in men's teams.Any experience of this?
Do your clubs have a ladies team?
Despite our club being in a fairly big town and having a couple of lady coaches for the juniors we dont do anything to attract women players .
Is this something your clubs do or might do or are you happy with things as they are.

the club should pick the best eleven available.

We have a junior girl, she plays u17s, scores on a sat, and plays on Sundays on occasion.
We have had other junior girls also. But non of them have stayed on,

We play against a few other females in the Sunday league to. Mainly juniors, Although one that is called the (generic club name) ladies. Aren't always all ladies. In one game(not against us) they played 9 woman and two men.
Score was 37for 9. Last two(both male) put on 260 for the last wicket, one scoring 190 of 80 odd balls, he was off course the clubs overseas pro, and the league game was a div 6 affair.

It is a male league, and he went in at 10. So it's not like he opened and mashed it. So you lot can decide if that was fair,

And on Saturday a few years ago, Pakistan captain urooj khan, played for a. Opposition side. She was pretty handy with both bat and ball. And took a few crucial wickets int  here win against us,

Do I mind. Not at all. More people play the better.

There are a few who play in men's cricket in York of varying standards. One went on your with the England women over the winter.

If they are good enough, they should play.

If they are not good enough, they should be welcomed enough to strive to improve to be good enough.

No problem with it. I coach the beds ladies team and a few of them play locally. I also play against some of the Northampton steelettos side. Some good players and also some of the hardest working at any coaching sessions.

I played at rolls Royce cc a few years ago, both Arran Brindle and her sister used to play occasionally for us.
Both very very good fielders, Arrans batting was steady away, I seem to remember her scoring a few

There was also a girl at Barnoldswick cc, who played in the seconds,

My memories of them all, were that they all fully deserved their inclusion in the teams

We have a  couple of under 18s who sometimes play in second XI through merit I must say. They normally have better hygiene and keep a deodorant handy which is refreshing for a change.

If the best women can play in the mens teams, could this mean the worst men should play in the womens teams?! Also I'm sure I've said this before, I wouldn't feel comfortable bowling anything back of a length or short at a woman.

Seriously!!! Lets just hope there are not many gender equality activists on here.

my sister was playing mens 3rdxi/4thXI when she was 13. She used to get a lot of stick from odler blokes but they would soon shut up once she started bowling. She used to turn the ball far more than anyone else ive seen. She was an Essex regular and had some England devlopment coaching sessions (before England decided medium pace sloggers was the better option than naturally gifted leg spinners). From memory she was the first regular female player in the Essex League (at any XI)
We also had a top order bat in our 2nd XI a couple of seasons back, she was a class act, again England development squad and an essex regular. Its a shame but neither of them play anymore.
