Bought this size 5 jumbo for my son any suggestions on the ding repair, looks like the old smash the stumps in with the bat

With all due respect, why bother? It's a size 5, so he will grow out of it pretty quickly. At his age, he will just be happy having a bat to swing around!

Yeah....I agree. Either play it 'as is' or stoke the fire with it.

Sand the face, clean the surface as well as you can, fill with saw dust and glue mix/paste...when dry sand again to make smooth then put a face sheet on it. Should do the job till he is old enough to get a bigger bat.

I would sand the face  and apply wood filler into the dents allow the filler to harden off, sand again for smooth finish, wipe residue off face apply clear anti scuff which tends to stronger.

As has already bees said:
Sand it down, wood filler and a scuff sheet or some bat tape. Job done

It shouldn't take long to get it looking a lot better than it is now.

Don't use wood filler. First thing to try is wetting it down. The fibers will soak in the water and expand and the dents will pop out. Then you can sand it down to flatten it off

Would not advise  wetting the dents as IMO the water could lift the bat face.

Sorry Rampage only just spotted your post, mix wood filler with a small amount of wood glue such as Araldite professional adhesive which is a white epoxy glue create a paste  apply then leave for around 24 hours to cure.  ( the consistency of the mix needs to be plyable as the overuse of wood filler will make the repair hard and solid ). Then sand by hand for smooth finish, apply  scuff sheet.
