Received a new bat from UK batmaker and i noticed this bump/bulge right in the middle of the blade face. Here are couple of pics :




There is a small knot on the edge and that is where the bulge on the face starts at. Its easily visible and can be felt by touching the bat face.
Should this be a cause for any concern ?

No it's not a concern, it's raised slightly because the knot is harder than the rest of the willow.

It called a hardbar mate and if you notice it is normally stiffer and should actually play better off there the good people at b3 have taught me well about willow.

It will have been selected that way round to have the hardbar centrally like that too.

Many of our proffesional players have them around that area because of there known rebound qualities

I knocked in three bats recently with this. The 'bar' was right in the middle. No matter how hard I hit it, it didn't budge. The rebound was very good indeed. It does sound different, but you'll know when you've got one out of the screws.

Really? I was always told that a knot is good for the toe but very bad in the face because it doesn't give the spring needed. In which would I be better off looking for a B3 with lots of knots in the face rather than a clean one?

lad at our club bought a gm argon with this, and did nothing but moan, as when knocking in it was hard, and wouldnt compress, he then spent 3month moaning, refusing to use it and trying to sell it as hed been sold a dude(even though he hand picked it himself)

to shut him up our opener, just went out to bat with it, and got 119. funnilly enough, he then wouldnt sell it the opener, and has used it since scoring lots of runs.

it may cause you a psychological issue at first, but my advice is just use it, crack on, and you will soon forgot you had issue.

Wow another type of performance willow... Wonder what grade that would make it A+k? The industries best kept secret maybe? Willow for the pro only maybe

Exactly I do not look for knots on my bats but look for hardbars across the face and if you look at most bats they will have them in certain degrees.



Clean nice blades  and straight grains are for looking at. I just prefer bats that go and I could show you the hard bar on  my butterfly and that flys.

More grains tend to make the bat stiffer so it goes better from the off too.

I may have miss heard stuff or taken the wrong way but practically I have seen my bats go well and there not all grade 1 mate.

I would of though that bat goes well from that raised area  it not a grade either for anybody either sarcasm is not a great quality mate

Clearly this is an Indian made TK with Xtrax 6000 applied evenly to the face! It was originally for Sachin but he retired so it was going spare.

No secret mate and in all types of willow more you look at williow the more you see and understand. It also helps having a good teacher  who knows a thing or two about willow teaching you.

Seen as i have seen and knocked in quite a few proffesional players bats going out in both our branding and not i can tell you quite a few have these and as i knock in a I can tell you the area is stiffer and plays better in my opinion.

But as a trainee maybe the Doctor will come on and explain.
