Just got my Red Ink Sirius X3 delivered and the handle (especially at the bottom) is a bit thinner than I had expected. In addition, there is a bit of vibration coming on to the handle when the ball hits the bat higher up in the zone between the sweet spot and the splice. So I am looking to fatten up the handle a bit by putting another grip. In addition, I love the spongy cushioned feel when the ball hits the bat.

I have gone through the bat grip database thread and just can't decide! The best ones for this job seem like octopus grip (don't care about destroying gloves), hybrid/combi grip and Kook max grip. From the grip I am looking for good grip that prevents twisting, more thickness on handle, spongy feel and the least amount of additional weight possible. The grips here are quite expensive (like $10/per grip) and hence can't get all of them due to being financially stretched.

Which one of these do you think will do the job best ?

Standard chevron would meet your needs mate

If the bottom of the handle is thin I'd put a 1/2 grip on first then a full grip over the top

Knocking in will help with any vibration, once it's prepped and match ready it should be better. It's the first time someone has mentioed the handle thickness but all feedbac is good. Hope you enjoy knocking it in and using it

 Chevron will be too thin for you. Go for a full spiral or half spiral in top of a chevron. You will have to experiment a few times.
Octopus is good for grip but probably won't absorb much shock.

Have to agree with knocking it in more. Brought a mongoose torq recently and it felt hard and vibrated. Knocked it in with a heavy mallet and gave it its first use the other day in the nets and the vibration has gone and it feels sweet and pings beautifully.

How is the mongoose torq, dont see any over in AUS

Thanks guys. But I hate Chevron grips and could not find the elastic strapping on any website in US. My friends used them on their bats and the bats never stopped twisting on the hot and humid days. :-)

Sounds like a good idea. Will try with a full double grip and if the top becomes thick then will cut it in half and use it under another grip.

I have decided to go for the GM ripple grips. I have never used them before but the pattern on the grip that  the bat came with is exactly like the GM ripple grip, and I like it. So going for it.

Gave the bat this afternoon to a guy who knocks in the bats  of a lot of folks in my league. I was told that the vibration is because the willow is hard pressed like all English bats and should go away one properly knocked in and the fibers open up. And that makes me quite happy. He had never heard of Red Ink before and really seemed to like the balance and the pick up of the bat. John, you migth be getting more customers from the Washington DC area soon. ;-)

How is the mongoose torq, dont see any over in AUS

I like it. A bit heavier then my Fisher Custom, but the pickup is fairly light.  I can tell its going cause some carnage in a few months when the season begins.

It was a late night eBay buy after a few too many scotches when the wife's warnings were a distant memory and the Buy button too good to refuse.

 I have been fastidious in my prep as its only a 6 grain Grade 3 Series. Its 2.11 with two proper oils, then after a few weeks some edge facing, a toe guard and a half grip.

I wouldn't have said it was hard pressed though it will be fine after knocking in. Think most bats would have a little vibration in certain areas if it hasn't been knocking in

Aaaargh. When you knock a bat in, the fibres categorically do not "open up". You are compressing them more. It's akin to additional pressing.

My guess is that he was comparing it with the bats like CA. We were speaking about English bats in general and some of his friends said that the reason they do not get English made bats (despite having a much better finishing) is because they are relatively harder pressed than CAs and take some time to get going, but in the long run lasts longer. On the other hand CAs are dried a lot and soft pressed and hence get going really soon but doesn't last that long. Their argument was that the season here being really short (17-18 games max) it makes no sense for them to get an English made bat as it takes a long time to get ready. And hence they get a CA or SS. He put an indentation with his nail on some SS bats (one season old) to show me and it went much deeper than on my bat.

In any case, if my bat lasts for two seasons, I will be really happy with it, for I may not be able to afford another bat for next season.

Yep, I am going for a half thread with GM ripple. The bat came with a grip of similar pattern and I like it.
