And I get what you think dan means, which is not what I was trying to say! By custom, I meant custom shape for the player who is getting it made - eg I will always want a specific shape and that is specific to me and will stay the same for me no matter which bat maker i choose to get it made- is it clearer now?

But I understand what Tom is saying - shape can be the same but will play differently according to the balance of weight, pressing on spine, pressing on toe etc

The spine of a bat isn't pressed, only the blade.

As for shapes, each batmaker is better at a certain shape. Whilst one may try to copy a certain shape it's very unlikely you'll get it exact, especially with varying willow cleft weights and different tools used.
