What is wrong with me!?!?
« on: August 28, 2014, 11:26:33 AM »

SO i have broken my 3rd bat in 2 weeks!! After my breaking my kookaburra pro players in the shoulders which i have published in another thread, i broke my gabba custom through the handle and then tonight as I was nearing the end of my 25minute net, i broke my Hammer Beserker through the toe.
Photos of that are to come but is not pretty but will be able to salvage it.

Can anyone offer any suggestions on why this is happening,
I have eliminated balls as at the club i play at we use Kookaburra Regulation "cross out" balls-
Any other suggestions would be great

Photos of break and repair job to come

Don't hit it with the toe, that should prevent toe damage ;)

How are you storing these bats btw?? It could just be coincidence but 3 bats in 2 weeks is some achievement!

Sounds like a severe case of bad luck.
Shoulder cracks in bats are common - not your fault
Handles do break - most likely not your fault
Toe damage - we've all toed one before and stoved in the bottom of a bat which lets be honest is a hazard of the game - you can't middle them all......

Stored indoors in my home, not left in hot car boots if thats what you were looking at, i look after my bats very carefully and usually any sign of wear i am fixing them and protecting

Thank god someone thinks its bad luck, it is like i am cursed!

Without reading the post...

Herpies? :-[

After reading the post, leave yorkers in the nets. I do and our fast bowlers think they have the wood on me in that dept. Not the fact I would rather not destroy an expensive bat.

Unfortunately though, sometimes it just happens!

BTW Thanks for the input ginger,

I dont think it is Yorkers as i think the kooka was just toeing a drive, gabba was just playing a backfoot defense and this hammer was playing an on-drive but still something i might think about

are they all from one seller/retailer?

similar age may mean they are all on their way out at roughly the same time

any commonalities at all [apart from user of course]

are you lending them to someone

No lending to anyone,

all different makes and from various retailers and all different ages, kooka is less than 3 months old, gabba is 12 months old but only been used a handful of times and hammer is 18 months but again was used for only a season

The toe of the bat looks like it's seen a bit of damp - have you played on a damp wicket?
How much do you tap the ground as part of your trigger action?
It could be weakened by either of those..

Do you oil the bats? It could be due to moisture loss with the drier climate over there, which will decrease the longevity. Of course, this doesn't explain the handle... Sounds like you've just been unlucky for the past 2 weeks!

The one in the photo above is 18 months old and is more dirt covering. no dampness,

I do oil some of my bats, i oiled this one when i reapplied the scuff sheet about 8 months ago

and probably the opposite in regards to tapping the bat in trigger movements, i dont tap hard at all

Eh, Sod's law. :-[ You have plenty of Lekkas to use though, how are they going? Would be interesting to see a detailed review on one, mentioning the dimensions and weight, some look enormous!

Hi Chad, i would love to do such a review but a few members on the forum would not allow me to do so. Even though i have proven i am not the head of Lekka, i still get emails from forum and non members saying i am the Head of lekka and i am selling false goods. I did do a review of the signature bat i received from James a view months back but with approval of forum bosses i would do a detailed review.
