my 'handiwork' the hole was drilled at an angle , between 1 and 2 o'clock... it was a complicated crack so this was a way of getting glue right into the centre

I think it's dead now  :-




Never mind, it was fun cleaning it up and it lasted a couple of net sessions. My b3 net bat has also been battered this winter and 2 other bats broke during nets, so I don't think it's just the wood!

try binding the toe this time? also use hide glue, it sticks to itself unlike PVA.

What you can't see is that whole front toe area is shattered into three or four pieces across the dowells as well. Of course it could be glued again and bound but that area will be useless. The crack has also run higher up the blade and would need a dowell.

Ive just done one like this and I bonded it then absolutely smothered it in glue so it dried solid and very tight I never covered it in bat tape. Feels and taps up very solidly

Hello, it's update time again! I have been pretty busy recently so haven't had as much time as possible. Finally completed the GN Nitro yesterday, couple of photos during the process.



Nitro pretty much complete, along with my Salix mid refurb and my latest project glued up, see below.



Next up was my Salix, thought it deserved a new set of stickers and I managed to get hold of my all time favourite design, Newbery Cadbury GT. It's now my dream bat, so much so that I don't want to use it

Love the draw knife outline left from the stickers.












Finally onto my next project, which some may recognise from a recent sale thread. After taking forever to get off the nastiest stretchiest plastic scuff sheet and stickers off, it needed a few bits of the face glued back down. Plan to attack this tomorrow.

Thanks @Buzz Really enjoyed working on each bat and using this thread to review my process. I hope to start bat making this summer and continue with the refurbs.

Bit of woodwork and the world cup this morning.


Mmmm, look at those grains.


Working through the grades successfully until I get to 400 grit when this happens.


Rest of the bat has come up nicely.


Glued the lifted piece of wood back down, will have her finished tomorrow.

Always go across the grain especially on a fine grit sandpaper, or willow strip like that will happen quite regularly. I cocked up enough refurbs this way early on to have learned my lesson

I'm normally pretty careful when going over repaired cracks and strips like these. Thanks for the advice mate.

Woodworking guides I have seen all recommend sanding with the grain. Will try sanding across the grain to see if that helps, those pesky willow strips are a PITA. Thanks for the tip Jake!
