Just heard that the East Sussex Cricket League is giving teams the option of not supplying teas anymore.
everyone just brings their own lunch and pays less in match fees.

The horror! The horror!  :o

we dont charge the oppo in our league as we play home and away and the host team covers it. on the whole they are good enough.

surprisingly the club with the newest/club house did the worst teas. most clubs spend £30-£40. usually all cold but they all make an effort. one club even gave us ice creams this season :)

we cover our own costs as above and give tea people budget of £50 which gets a decent spread evry week as some of the wives are expert bakers so copious amounts of cake

on the odd occasion a tea lady drops out we do tea for 2 where every player brings enough tea for 2 people and has less match fee charged

if no teas im retiring or just playing t20 as I need the rest between innings as much as anything

if a team says they are not doing teas ill just stay at home thanks

To whoever thinks this is a good idea, there is a simple solution.
Stop, think - what would Dwayne Levrock do??

While in LMS tea is not usually the done thing. We have been know to provide home made Malted Milk biscuits and/or token beers to the oppo. I would however think that after a long innings some form of sustenance would be needed. If cooking facilities are available surely 20 pizzas and some sandwiches, job done!

Tea's are a bit of as pain here, unless you have a few mums or wives that are keen it's a hassle. Our players just bring enough for 2 rather than charge. I would be happy to see them go.

We played a few Sunday games last season when we had a snack (tea/biscuits) for tea and then had a tea laid on at the pub across the road, after the game. He did some nice hot food and it was a good way of getting the oppo back to chat and socialise.

Knowing whats invovled in doing teas it's not a bad idea as upto  2013 my wife did club teas but it was a long day shopping in the morning preparing food at home transporting to the ground preparing and serving  24 teas at the ground  washing  up  cleaning up etc  she was given 30.00 per match to buy food which is what the league stated the opposition should pay for teas but she was always out of pocket as she wanted to be seen to provide a proper tea.

I think fewer people are willing to spend extra time and hassle buying and preparing the stuff.
I'm vegetarian so I'm essentially paying 8 quid for a cheese roll ,tea and cake.

Simple answer, don't be vegetarian :) Or just have your fill of cake, normally the best bit anyway...

On a sensible note, I see why the idea of scrapping teas might gain support if you play against teams that seem to make no effort in this department. But if all the teams are encouraged to do a good spread, then everyone else will, and everyone benefits. Nothing worse than turning up at a ground and seeing a few sandwiches, a packet of crisps and a sausage roll pretending to be tea.

I wouldnt be that bothered to see teas go. As a keeper / opening batsmen no matter what happens i will be padding up and getting ready to do something at tea. Last thing i want to do is stuff my face. At most ill have a piece of fruit and/or a slice of cake.
If food was provided after the game instead bit like football id be all over that.

Just read this what team do you play for? Sounds ridiculous although paying £50 for teas when clearly the oppo hadn't spent £5 on it is frustrating to say the least

Looks like I'm in the minority here, but I would be for scrapping teas and having post-match food instead, such as pie and peas or sausage and chips (for those who have cooking facilities).  Those that do not could provide sandwiches post match to go with the post game drink.. Will keep teams around for a bit at least.

Quite like this idea, 7/10 times teas are terrible in my league (one club even have each player bring 2 teas each!!) bring a sarnie or two and have some warm food after the match
